There are several key alterations to the event.
The race will now be held over two INDIVIDUAL nights of competition – the Friday and Saturday nights will be completely independent of each other with no carry over points to determine grid positions on the Saturday.
The two main events (one each on Friday and Saturday night) will each pay $19,000 to win – honouring Scott’s racing number #19. But here’s the kicker…
On the Saturday night, there’s a BONUS $19,000 bounty on top of the already $19,000 to win main event IF the Friday night winning driver has qualified for the A Main and then elected to and has started from #19 in the A-Main.
This means that, should a driver win the Friday night A-Main ($19,000 to win) from any position that night and then Saturday night A-Main ($19,000 to win) from position #19 he/she will pocket a cool $57,000!
So that’s $19,000 on the Friday, then $19,000 plus $19,000 if they start from the #19 position on the Saturday.
This makes the 2015 Scott Darley Challenge potentially the richest pay-to-win race in Australian Sprintcar history.
Importantly too, there are no major Sprintcar race clashes on the east coast and no WSS events on the same weekend thereby allowing a veritable ‘who’s who’ of USA and Aussie racing talent to compete.
“That’s a big thing for us,” says Bruce Darley, “not having World Series racing somewhere in the area on the same weekend means we’ll have the best drivers in the country or anywhere else racing in Scott’s event. We’re very grateful for that situation, and the two-night format and exciting extra prize money. We feel that this year, with the Giant Video Screen and the video streaming that Scott’s race will grow to become something that fans and teams book into every year. I think Scott would have really loved the way this year’s event is turning out.”
The Mercure Sydney Parramatta will also conduct a ‘meet the stars’ function on the Thursday night, January 15 leading into the big race weekend.
At the request of the Darley Family a new beneficiary will be named in place of the charities that have been linked to the race each year. The identity of that beneficiary will be revealed soon.
“We want teams to lock in for this early,” says Steven Green, “and we want Sydney, NSW and interstate and international fans to book us into their travel and holiday plans. This race will grow and grow, and along the way we’ll create something truly special as a fitting tribute to Scotty’s memory.”
