Even if you don't cheer for Fred Rahmer, you still have to respect him.
And after last weekend, Rahmer, 49, should have made all of us sit up in our seats and appreciate his raw talent.
Rahmer's win aboard the Chad and Jenn Clemens-owned No. 51 Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway was his 475th career win since 1978, the first year he drove modifieds. He added another win the next night at Lincoln Speedway.
The beauty in all this is Rahmer doesn't even know.
Since Rahmer broke his tailbone in an Aug. 10 crash at Knoxville Raceway, he's only worried about healing.
"I haven't been doing much except laying around and racing since that wreck," Rahmer said. "There isn't much you can do, but hope it heals."
He even visited a chiropractor on Tuesday, hoping for some relief.
And when asked about reaching the milestone, Rahmer was only focused on "working through the pain."
Some might think it would be better taking off to let the injury heal.
"Sprint car drivers don't get paid for sick days," Rahmer said. "We get paid for only the nights we race, and I'm a professional race car driver."
Rahmer is 205 points ahead of Doug Esh in the Lincoln division standings. If Rahmer, who has a track-high 152 Lincoln victories, wins the season title, he'll surpass Steve Smith on the all-time list for most points titles with 10. He's won Lincoln titles in 1994, 1997-2002 and 2004-05.
Rahmer is third in the Grove points chase. Todd Shaffer leads with 4,555 points, followed by Jeff Shepard (4,450) and Rahmer (4,420).
"I'm just lucky to have the guys working on the car and making it easy for me to drive," Rahmer said. "They make my job easy, because I wasn't sure I was going to make it last Friday night."
As for more milestones, Rahmer believes you're only as good as your last win.
