You know, I actually think I've enjoyed the past two years as a 360 show more than I did the 410 show. Car counts were good and it was nice to see the 360 guys get to run for a little bit more cash after the 360 Nationals. But I'm not complaining either way, I'm just happy to watch sprint cars. Now if only we could get the non-wingers back....

Glad to hear its back to 410s. Maybe some other local track should go with 360s on Tuesday since most people worry about using their 410 equipment right before the nationals. I'd love to have the full speedweek back some way some how.

I am in agreement with ColtanW, what i mainly came to see was the non wing cars but good news about the 410s coming back. There must be some non wing series that would like to get some publicity & let their drivers make some $$$ by racing on Tuesday night at Osky. Anyone have suggestions for T-Mac?

Never watched PowRi Midgets on a half mile. Would it be pretty close/exciting races even on a big track?

There is a nonwing series fairly close to Iowa that COULD sanction a race at Osky.... but the reason they have been so successful in their 3 year tenure is because they stay off of motor eating tracks as much as possible... the field is a pretty even mix of 410s and ASCS 360s, with a handfull of motors from other types of racecars that have been converted to sprintcar engines...and even a few 305s sprinkled into the field. On quarter miles in MO 305s have won with the series. As long as Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland is the biggest track they run they will continue to attract competitors regardless of what engine they run.

For the same reason I think it will be a cold day in hell before you see PowrI midgets at Osky. The biggest reason PowrI has thrived so much in the last 6-8 years is because of the tracks they run. Mostly tight little 1/4 mile bullrings with a couple 3/8 mile tracks mixed in. As long as they stay with this formula they will continue to attract all the restricted budget midget owners who feel like they have a chance as long as they don't have to twist their 8-12 year old engines over 8800 RPM flat footed for 25 laps. If they booked a race at Osky you would see a 14 car field at best... 3 Kunz cars, 2 RFMS cars, Shane Hmiels car and and no more than 6-8 PowrI regulars who are only going to not lose a whole race worth of points.

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Does the WAR series prohibit the five bar cars? Maybe if the promoter went with a rule like this then he wouldn't have to just rely on a sanctioning body to bring all the cars. The only rules could be:

Cars with engines over 364 CI must weigh 1400 pound w/driver

Cars with engines under 364 CI no weight limit

WAR allows 5 bar cars.... actually the WAR rulebook is pretty stinkin slim.. Hoosier Medium right rear, no cockpit adjustors, and a fairly heavy weight rule compared to USAC and every sprint car in the world is legal.

Typical Missouri track conditions make WAR a VERY VERY competitive series and I don't think you can race a sprintcar competitively anywhere else in the world on the budget that some of the WAR cars operate on. You could literally buy the turnkey Eagle/wet sump 360 car that was on the HH classifieds a couple months ago for $6700 race ready and be able to win some WAR races with it. J.D. Black won a WAR race at Grain Valley earlier this year, against a 30ish car field, with a 305 that is similar to a Knoxville 305. Some guy from Kansas came from the back to a top 5 with a URSS 305 at the Hockett Memorial at Wheatland last month against a 30 car plus field.

When and if the powers that be ever get serious about addressing the astronomical cost of racing an openwheel car they could learn a lot from WAR and PowrI.

When they announced the non-wing sprints weren't coming back to Osky I actually had the thought of making it a Midget and Silver Crown Champ Car show. If it worked out right and everyone participated you'd get all the cars from Belleville the weekend before. I could see it boosting the car count at Belleville with the Osky show giving Silver Crown and Midget guys another chance at winning some money. Of course I could also see it go the complete opposite way with guys not wanting to run two big tracks that close together and putting even more stress on their motors.

A guy can dream.

I read through the rules. Basically, bring your sprint car and race! Wish some of the promoters in Iowa would book these guys during the Iowa spint week. Des Moines/Osky Monday Tuesday?

Tony Rost from Nebraska ran most of the WAR series with a racesaver 305. Got a couple top 5s.
