Heading down for the world finals with my best friend who hasnt been to the track. I was there the first year but we are wondering about things to do during the day. We went to a couple race shops (Hendrick, stewart haas, and joe gibbs) last time i was down here and then got a tour of the NASCAR track. The hall of fame is new so we are going to check that out. Does anyone have suggestions of must see places to go race related? Any help is appreciated!

The Penske shop is remarkable. It's the only one i've been to actually, but I've been told that you get to see more of the actual shop there than any of the others. I'm enjoying this one with ya. Makes 5 straight for me!

The Nascar HOF is great for a HOF.
I have been to the NFL, Baseball, Rock n Roll, Sprint Car and many others.
What do you want?
It has a number of cars and lots of history along with alot of other activities.
If you can read and listen and spend some time it's worth the trip.

If any of the nights get rained out, you could head to downtown Charlotte and hangout at the Epicenter. Its where Dale Jr's bar, Whiskey River is. Also, there is a massive country bar, Coyote Joes has that a lot of B level talent there all the time. If it gets too cold, but you still want to race go-carts, there is an indoor place at the corner of 77 and 85. I can't remember the name.
They film a lot of movies and HBO/Showtime specials around here also. Check some websites and find out the locations. Hunger Games and Shallow Hal to name a few.
Mayberry is just up the road north of Winston-Salem. Really neat place for a day trip, as well as, Old Salem. A trip back in time. Old Salem also has the oldest bar in North Carolina. I can't remember the name, but its a cool place.
Go to Metrolina Speedway. Its old and run down, but neat to walk the track and take pictures. A lot of history there. Sad that its no more.
Airplane fans can go to the museum near Charlotte Douglas Airport and look at the plane that landed in the Hudson River. The Charlotte Hornets are back in town. Catch a game. Concord Mills is the largest mall in the Southeast. Iron Thunder is my favorite restaurant near the track. They have the "Biggest Breast in Town" aka the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. It is massive. Go take pics of the barn from Days of Thunder...
I can't think of much more... If I can, I'll let you know.
