Were just 10 days away from the most anticipated open wheel showdown in Atomic Speedways history, the Open Wheel Championships. With entry forms continuing to roll in, the OWC is shaping up to be a crown jewel with over $115,000 in purse money to be handed out over 3 classes. Headlined by the $15,000 to win Renegade winged sprint cars, then there is the $5,000 to win Non-Wing sprint cars, and the $5,000 to win AMRA open wheeled modifieds. Action kicks off Thursday the 23rd with non-wing and Mod qual, heat races, and D and or C main action, plus practice for the winged sprints. Fri will see qual and heats for the Renegade 410 sprints plus all Consi's, as well as Consi's for the Non Winged Sprints and Mods. This will set the stage for Sat's OWC where the cash and hardware will be handed out. Sat will kick off with with the Charlie McCann non qual's race that will see 20 winged drivers that didnt qual for the OWC main event, battle it out for the $2,065 to win $200 to start show. Then each of the 3 divisions will have a 10 car, dash for cash that will pay $1,000 to win and $100 to start that will determine the top 10 starting positions in each division. The OWC main events will kick off with the Mods $5,000 to win show, followed up by the Non-Wing Sprints $5,000 to win $500 to start, then wrap up with the crowning of the 1st annual OWC winner in the $15,000 to win $1,000 to start Renegade 410 winged sprint car feature.

Capming is available for $20 per night or $40 for the weekend, no electric or water hook ups. Or visit Trackside camping on facebook and check availability and pricing for camping that offers electricity and water hook ups. Also hotel accomodations can be found in Chillicothe at the Quality inn which offers racers rates. Just call them direct and ask for the OWC racers rates to recieve discount.

Too bad it will be the 2nd best race of the wkend behind STN!!!

Too many other classes & theres no ppv for Atomic & only pays one night were drivers race three nights as opposed to STN paying all four nights

Glad yall chose to move your race next year!

hope you enjoy your car count for it wont be what you think it will

61 cars signed up for the 410 portion, 30 for the modifieds, and 15 for non wings so far including bacon and clauson.

Nice try though.

Well i would bet on at least 40 showing up which will make for a great show. $1,000 to start is great money, whether it pays one day or not. A two day All Star show pays $300 to start friday and $400 to start Saturday. Last time i checked, thats only $700 champ!

It is also paying great money for the modifieds and non-wing sprints. You may not get huge crowds Thursday and Friday, but you better beleive it will be packed Saturday!!!

I hope to make it out for Friday and Saturday!!!

Dont quote me on this, but I think there is going to be some kind of coverage for this event. Several other classes ?, Winged sprints, non-winged sprints, and Mods, plus a $5K bonus to win all 3. The winged sprints only race Fri and Sat and thats the ones that are either in the A or the Charlie McCann non-qualifier race. For Mods and NW sprints that make it through their heats will race Thur and Sat. So in all the only cars that will race all 3 days are the Mod and NW sprint B main transfers. SO its not like their racing for a week and only getting paid once, plus there isnt a complete show until Sat and I would say that purse speaks for itself. You had mentioned the STN races 4 days, whats the pay like for the shows leading up to the big A, Ive heard it isnt like a normal paying event, but locks you into the alphabet race, a b c etc, on Fri or Sat. Not trying to compair because the OWC was never intended to be in competition with the STN. When the owner decided to schedule this race date, he looked at local track schedules and other 410 series' schedules, and after the fact, the WoO scheduled a race in PA but otherwise most are done for the yr. I can understand that one might think it was scheduled on top of them on purpose, but it wasnt. For 1, the OWC isnt a 360 show, its winged  and Non wing 410's. And 2, its 13hrs away so isnt very likely that they will be competing for the same fans. The only downfall though, is some 410 drivers that would normally jump into a 360 and compete in the STN, but mainly because there wasnt another 410 race around. The date was changed next yr because the owner was trying to get it closer to the summer months for weather purposes, plus in Aug there is several race teams from Australia still in the states and alot of teams are traveling and getting ready for the Nationals and other month of money races.

I would say there will be several more teams in attendance than are pre-entered, just due to the fact that there isnt an entry fee and pre-entering dosent get you anything extra. It just allows the promoter to advertise those drivers that have already pre-entered, which is increasing by the day. Just this last Sat night at Eldora, there was 53 non-winged Sprints for I believe $1500 to win. I know it was a BOSS points race, but I dont think they have that many series teams. And the purse for the NW sprints is btr than a USAC show and the Mod purse might be one of the largest in the country. Hell, the winged 410 purse is pretty solid all the way back to $1000 to start. And yes, its multiple days, but is still like racing 1 complete show, just comprised over a 2 day period. So its not like the drivers are racing 100's of laps just to be paid for the feature, instead Qual, heat, consi or dash, then A main but split into multiple days.

Just an FYI...the Short Track Nationals pay $100 to the winner for qualifying nights...so you are right, all four nights pay but just not very well.

But that $100 locks you in to the dash (that pAys) and the A-main that is minimum $2500. Also, Wednesday night is $2k to win and a provisional for Saturday worth $2500 minimum plus a $2500 bonus if you win Wednesday and Saturday. There is no comparison. The short track purse in nearly $185,000.

it is very unfortunate that atomic chose to schedule on top of it. It's going to cost both places some cars.  I wouldn't put too much stock into a free entry list until it actually happens.

305's are the herpes of sprint cars

Really?????? Do you realize the geographic difference in the location of these events and the fact that one is a 360 race and one is a 410 race??????

Sure it may make a difference in 5-10 cars at each place, but it is not going to effect the success of either event. Give me a damn break.

You do realize these shows are 720 miles apart??? These shows wont effect each other at all!! Maybe Greg Wilson would have been to STN and Wayne Johnson and Brian Brown to Atomic, maybe, but thats it!!! Atomic wants to do something for THIS region for a year end special so we dont have to drive 720 miles to see a 100 sprint cars!! Atomic is 3 divisions,  2 are sprint cars, all paying big $$$ These shows wont effect each other at all being 720 mies apart!! You better get on Lernverville's and Port Royal's case too about changing their dates since they are racing too bbbbaaahhhaaaa or Australia, they may need to switch their dates too in case one driver wanted to go to the STN since you think Atomic needs too.

Life's short, race hard!!!
