RED RIVER OPEN WHEEL NATIONALS-NOW ONE-DAY RACE SAT. OCT. 11
Wichita Falls, TX (10/10/14) by DarinShort.com. At the conclusion of tonight's drivers meeting at 7:15pm a massive thunderstorm came and washed out the Friday night portion of the Red River Open Wheel Nationals at Red River Speedway (RRS), forcing track officials to consolidate the program to a new one-day format consisting of heat races, B's features and A-features in all race divisions.
It's never fun for anyone to have to get all pumped up for an event like this, then get clobbered by a big storm right when it's time to race.
And it's equally not as fun to have to repackage an event due to rain. But sometimes rain happens and we all just have to make the best of it.
The area desperately needs rain, as one local resident said they've only received 6" since January. Easily 2-3" fell between 7:15pm and 9:15pm.
But now the radar and the forecast shows the rain has concluded through Saturday night. Daytime highs are forecast to be in the low 70's, making for stellar racing conditions.
So, RRS officials are going to clean up the track surface and we'll still get a huge event in on Saturday.
Luckily most of the pit parking spaces are either concrete or paved, so that won't be an issue. Fans should seek parking on the grassy areas of the parking lot, as there will be some muddy areas left over in the parking lot on Saturday.
That all being said, the new program for SATURDAY, OCTOBER 11th is as follows.
There is a lot of information here, so please take a few moments to read it all:
Racers that purchased a pit pass on Friday will use that pit pass to get in free on Saturday. (Pit passes were set to be $35 each day; now there's just one $35 cost. We're not going to make drivers pay $70 in pit passes for what is now a 1-day race. Similarly, we're not making race fans pay $25 to get in on Saturday.)
Racers that pre-entered this event (which was required) pay no entry fee.
New teams (in all 5 race divisions) that didn't pre-enter by 10/9 can still enter the Sat. Oct. 11 for $25/car entered, plus a $25 transponder rental.
Fans that purchased a $12 grandstand ticket will be able to pay $5 to get into the Saturday night race. Those that didn't purchase tickets can do so Saturday for $17 (which is the original price of the Saturday ticket).
Fans that purchased a 2-day grandstand pass can present their ATTACHED armband to the ticket window on Saturday and get the difference back to their Saturday admittance ($25 - $17 = $8 due back).
That covers the ticket office and pit accounting for Saturday, October 11.
Driver payback. Although this is now a 1-day race, we are still paying the 2-day first-place money in all 5 championship races.
The Champ Sprints will pay $2,000 to win and $100 to start. Drivers that signed in on 10/10 and return to race on 10/11 will also receive $75 if they do not make the feature.
The RaceSaver Sprints will pay $1,000 to win and $200 to start.
Drivers that signed in on 10/10 and return to race on 10/11 will also
receive $75 if they do not make the feature.
The Champ Sprint vs RaceSaver Sprint Challenge feature will pay $2,000 to win and $100 to start.

The Limited Modifeds will pay $2,000 to win and $75 to start. Drivers that signed in on 10/10 and return to race on 10/11 will also receive $50 if they do not make the feature.
