hmmm, sounds interesting but IDK how you can have a series built around 1 track. I understand he doesn't want to step on Knoxville's toes but no Saturday shows anywhere but Knoxville? How's that gonna work out? The article says CA to PA. OK so you tow a 1000 miles to race a series show on a Friday night but you have to turn around and travel back to Knoxville the next day? Most dirt tracks run on Saturdays. A series can't exclude that date and hope to get many shows.

You need to re-read the article. This is an upper Midwest based series....not CA to PA. They will stop at Knoxville for a few races but will not schedule against them. They will hold races mid-week, Fridays, and on Sundays. Right now they are racing at knoxville 4 times and Huset's 4 times. Give it a chance.

Hopefully the WoO will open there eyes and schedule midwest events with this series. 16 to 22 cars at every WoO show I've been to in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri in the five years I've lived here is horrible for the fans and horrible for the WoO brand. You won't find a bigger sprint car fan than I am. I live in Omaha and have basically stopped going to any regional WoO shows except for Knoxville becuase it's just not worth it to see car counts in the high teens or low 20s. Unfortunately, I suspect they will maintain their arrogance and want nothing to do with any sort of partnership.
Perhaps Mr. Gibson could comment on what insiders for WoO are saying. But when Tod makes a comment about WoO not opening their eyes it suggests to me that so far WoO want nothing to do with this series.
I'm curious with Sammy and Steve retiring and Kasey Kahne probably only a year or two away from losing his lucrative ride with HMS to Chase Elliott, what is WoO doing to think about their future? I'm not one of those guys always concerned about WoO failing but my guess is that WoO are likely to lose a number of long time cars and car owners in the next few years.
How long with Steve spend his wealth to fund a #11 for Kraig?....
How long will Sides keep racing? He's been non competitive for a few years now... so possibly no #7s in 5 years...
If Kahne does lose his HMS ride will he even fund 1 team, let alone 3? So possibly lose #4, #9, #49 in next few years...
Big Game already moving his dollars to the series so no replacements to the #1 or #7 on WoO tour that I see in the near future.
Roth never seems to run WoO for more than a few years at a time. So #83 might be gone in next 5 years...
How long will Motter stay this time? Possibility of no #71M in 5 years...
How long with CJB run WoO? Possibility of no #51 in 5 years...

Perhaps what sprint car racing needs is innovation exactly like what Tod is trying to do in the Midwest. Let's get really crazy... what if a guy like Tod made a move to purchase WoO from WRG and take an idea like this nationwide.???
Set up 4 regional WoO support series that works WITH existing local tracks and promotors and doesn't compete against them. No sanctioning fees, just a point fund, strong sponsor support, perhaps small tow monies, and assistance with better paying events and purses. Put together a 25 to 30 race schedule in each region... the East, Midwest, West, and South and schedule National WoO races alongside those regional support series when in the region. Establish tow money for any regional WoO driver to travel to any National WoO event in their region. This would all but ensure at least 30, maybe 40 cars at nearly every WoO event.
Establish a series of "Major" events. Perhaps 10 premier events at 10 premiere tracks during the year (one per month) and two in each region Plus season opener at Volusia and Season finale at Charlotte that are not in a region. Pay tow money for any and all teams that run for points in any of the regional support series to travel to any of the "Majors" during the year.
1) DirtCar Nationals - Volusia Speedway Park - Volusia, FL (February, Season Opener)
2) Outlaw Showdown - Dirt Track at Vegas - Las Vegas, NV (March, South)
3) Thunderbowl Nationals - Thunderbowl Raceway - Tulare, CA (April, West)
4) Texas Outlaw Nationals - Devils Bowl Speedway - Mesquite, TX (May, South)
5) Big Game Invitational - Somewhere in MNDAK area (June, Midwest)
6) Kings Royal - Eldora Speedway - Rossburg, OH (July, East)
7) Knoxville Nationals - Knoxville Raceway - Knoxville, IA (August, Midwest)
8) Gold Cup - Silver Dollar Speedway - Chico, CA (September, West)
9) National Open - Williams Grove Speedway - Williams Grove, PA (October, East)
10) World Finals - Dirt Track at Charlotte - Charlotte, NC (November)
I know, this all sounds crazy and impossible. I'm just spitballing a grandiose idea based partly on what Tod is doing in the Midwest. I just get excited about sprint car racing and innovative ideas to market and grow the sport.

i was thinking the same thing.
You have this laid out pretty well.
This is going to be get for the midwest hope they team up for some races with the IRA at cedar lake.
The Jerry Richert memorial would be a great one.
Thank you for you insight.

Considering Big Game helped to up the purse this year already for the Richert Memorial, it takes place after Knoxville's weekly show is finished for the year, and the article mentions talks with IRA and MOWA... I'm thinking the Richert Memorial is highly likely to be a part of this new series schedule. The Bill Waite Memorial at LaSalle would be another solid addition to the scheduIe.
Starting what sounds like basically a non-profit organation to support 410 sprint car racing, drivers and tracks in the midwest sounds like a noble idea. Hopefully this works out well for everyone.
"They'll learn."

Not crazy!!! Been thinking this ever since I heard about the new series! Don't even have to limit it to 4 regions. You have a southern region, west coast region, 3 different Midwest regions, and a couple of Eastern regions. I think you could definitely pull something like this off. I have thought this exact same thing in my head for the last couple of weeks. Way to put it in writing! Have invite only races too-all WOO regulars and the top 5 in points for any participating regional series? Pay tow money to the regional top 5's to get them there. I think it would be a great thing to at least look into!

The schedule should include Eagle and I-80 in Nebraska. Both are huge supporters of sprint car racing.

I doubt the IRA would be to thrilled to lose their 2 biggest purse races (Lasalle and Richert) to this new series and I just don't see that happening. I could see the Wilmot IRA vs All Stars show perhaps being replaced with a date for this new series but as is the case right now both Wilmot and Lasalle they are on Saturdays running against Knoxville so don't think they would fit into the new series schedule.

Please Lord, let Tod bring his new series to all of the dirt tracks in Northwestern Illinois. Like............ummm..........crap...............I'm having writer's block. What were those tracks? Uhhh.........
$hit--never mind--we don't have any. Tod--can you PLEASE bring some 410's to the Northeast Iowa/Southern Wisconsin area? It is hours for me to drive to see a winged sprint car let alone a 410 during the year. Northwest is not exactly a hot-bed for 410 sprint car racing. Most people around me say "isn't that the car with the big wing they call a midget?"
Sad.
Farley Iowa? Dubuque? Darlington, wi? Sun Prarie, WI?
I hope it happens--I would love to do a little 3 or 4 day tour this coming summer!!!!!

While I hope this series is a success, everyone needs to slow thier roll. The business model for the MOSS is not sustainable. Tod is going to put in $350,000 of his own money to back the point fund. They are not going to charge the tracks a sanctioning fee. Thus, the only money coming to the series is coming from event/series sponsorship. It is highly debatable that the sponsorship that the new series is going to be able to charge will even pay of the series expenses.
At a high level, what do we expect from this new series? Do we expect them to have a race director? Do we expect them to have a dedicated flagman? Do we expect them to have a dedicated announcer? Do we expect them to have a dedicated pit steward? Do we expecxt them to have a dedicated saftery crew? Do we expect them to have a dedicated PR person? Do we expect them to have a dedicated marketing staff? Do we expect them to have a social medila staff? Are they going to have a dedicated pit trailer like the ASCS and WOO? Are they going to have a dedicated souvenier trailer as well? I am not sure that anyone has the answers, but it is obvious that if you want to put on A 30-35 race schedule that it is going to take some resources to put it togheter including payroll for emplpyees doing the work.
So before, we start duplicating this effort in numerous area of the country, how many people do we know that are going to spend $500K to $600K of their own money on a sprint car series without any hope of making the money back. Espcially, when there is the WOO , All Stars, Renegades, PA Posses. King of Cali, IRA, and all of the other regional series/tracks that are doing well allready.

did you not read the part where it says he isnt trying to make money?
Hes trying to help everyone else make money.
I assume he's taking his money from being a car owner and spending it on multiple cars instead of 2.
So, we as fans need to let this play out and support it. This is a step in the right direction in the area its obvious these guys need more money to race. There isn't many Sprint Car fans that have the resources to do this. So lets be greatful that there is one and help him not to lose so much money that he doesnt want to anymore.

the woo started with a lot less.
utilize the tracks and the staff they have. let the tracks promote the shows for the most part.
i read todd said they are looking to support maybe 10 traveling teams. that is how the woo started. they aren't trying to bring the whole show. it is up to each track to supply the competiotion.
to indy and beyond!!
