Jerrod Hull – Second at Quincy Sets up Queen’s Royale!

(Bill W) September 23, 2014 – After a second place run at Quincy Raceways in Illinois last Sunday, Jerrod Hull and the Rockwell American #12 team are hoping to defend their Queen’s Royale title this Saturday night.  The event at St. Francois County Raceway near Farmington, Missouri pays $4,000 to the winner.  The Sikeston, Missouri driver’s runner-up finish Sunday allowed him to stretch his MOWA point lead as that series hits the homestretch.

MOWA was to run Saturday in Illinois at Macon Speedway.  “We were late, and I was kind of happy to see it rain out this time,” admits Jerrod.  “We had the left front tire blow out on the toter-home.  It was 5:30 and the guy was still trying to get it fixed!”

Jerrod got a much better start at Quincy Sunday.  “We had a good draw and we were able to win the heat from the pole,” he says.  “The car worked really good…everything worked really well.”

He was scheduled to start sixth in the Dash.  “We were able to start fifth in the Dash, because Joey Moughan hurt his motor in the heat race,” says Jerrod.  “We were able to get by a couple cars there and finish third.  Things were going really well.”

Starting third in the main event, Jerrod quickly moved into second behind Bill Balog.  “We were just about the same speed as the leaders,” he says.  “We probably led one lap.  We passed Bill Balog on a restart, but he was able to get back by us.  The cushion was pretty much gone in one and two.”

Chris Urish was the hot driver at Quincy again, shooting to the lead for the second straight MOWA visit.  “Urish was able to get around Balog and me,” says Jerrod.  “He was going really well.  We were running third right there with them.  Balog drove it in deep on the last lap, and I knew there was no way he was going to stick on the cushion.  Sure enough, he went over the top.  That gave us second, and it had taken rubber on the top of the track, so we knew it would be follow the leader. Either way, Chris is fast there.  He’s won the last two shows at Quincy.”

The second place finish was a welcome reprieve after a disappointing Tom Knowles Memorial at the Spoon River Speedway September 13.  “We feel a lot better than we had at Canton,” says Jerrod. “We were confused, but we made some changes with the car, and things went well at Quincy.  We weren’t perfect, but we were a lot closer.  We stretched out our points lead…you don’t like to do it when guys have bad luck like Moughan did, but that stretched the lead.”

Jerrod is excited about the Queen’s Royale.  “We were able to win it last year, and we’d like to do it again,” he says.  “We’d had some strange things and some bad luck happen in the past at that race, but we feel good going in.”

Jerrod and the #12 team would like to thank: Rockwell American, Midland Performance, Super Shox, Sebastian Sand Blasting & Powder Coating, Inc., Chuck’s Small Engines, Don Hamilton, HRP, Lighthouse Christian Center, Logo Daddy, Hoosier Tire, Simpson, Weld, Automotive Machine, Maxim and Heartland Trailer Manufacturing.
