18 race cars. Two of three heats were parades. Stands & parking lot pretty full compared to most shows. 

What did the purse pay for 18 cars ?

I believe it is a package deal. KWS receives a fixed price for the whole package. Now there may be some minimum car count that I am unaware of but the winer gets $3000.00. They are very much like the WOO, as they bring their own announcer and support cast.

Or you could have went to Perris and watched 26 real spint cars put on a great show

King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series trip to the coast sees Jason Statler claim first victory since 2008 on Friday at Santa Maria Speedway & defending champ Kyle Hirst score 4^th win of the year on Saturday at Ventura Raceway

September 15, 2014…An exciting & historic weekend of racing for the King of the West 410 Sprint Cars this past weekend was highlighted by Jason Statler earning his first series win since 2008 on Friday at Santa Maria and current point leader Kyle Hirst racing to his KWS leading fourth victory of the season at Ventura Raceway on Saturday.  

The triumph for Statler on Friday at Santa Maria Speedway was his very first win with the Golden State/ King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series since June 8, 2008 in Petaluma. The victory also came at the site of his biggest career win, which came in 1999 when he beat the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series. Statler also captured a KWS event at the one-third mile clay in 2003.

“This is so awesome I don’t really know what to say right now,” said Statler, who moved into a tie with Ronnie Day for 14^th on the all-time win list. “That was a lot of fun out there tonight and I hope all the fans enjoyed it. I can’t thank Dave Rios enough for all of his support and my whole crew for working so hard. We won an Outlaw show here back in 1999, but this one tonight feels pretty darn special too.”

Friday’s event at the Santa Maria Speedway brought 23 cars to the always welcoming one-third mile clay oval and featured a thrilling 30-lap main event. The surface presented some rough spots, which made things very interesting with it also being hooked up and lightning fast. Dash winner Bud Kaeding pulled away early on and looked very strong out front, until an issue with the right rear of the car took away his chance of victory on lap 10.

It then gave the lead to Campbell’s Brent Kaeding, who was in search of his first King of the West Series win of the season. The Hall of Famer looked to take advantage of the opportunity, but had a number of other hungry drivers hot on his heels. Chico’s Kyle Hirst then found a nice groove and charged past Kaeding for the lead just before the 10 to go signal was given. Soon after that Statler had his elbows up and closed in on Hirst to make it a fight for the top spot once again.

The 2004 series champion sliced his way by Hirst to grab the lead with 23-laps down and there was no looking back after that, as he took the checkered flag to earn the very popular victory. Hirst came home in second, with Brent Kaeding, Hanford’s DJ Netto and Roseville’s Sean Becker completing the top-five. Rounding out the top-10 were Chico’s Jonathan Allard, Fremont’s Shane Golobic, Fresno’s Craig Stidham, Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan and Tracy’s Austin Liggett, who earned the hard charger award in his KWS debut.

On Saturday the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series then traveled south to the Ventura Raceway for the first ever Winged Sprint Car event at the tight bullring. The beautiful setting played to some entertaining racing all night long, which ended with defending KWS champ and current point leader Kyle Hirst picking up his series leading fourth victory of the season. It was the 26-year-old drivers’ 11^th career Golden State/ King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series win, placing him in sole possession of ninth on the all-time list.

“It feels pretty cool to win the first Winged Sprint Car race here at Ventura tonight,” Hirst commented. “When we got here I wasn’t sure how the racing would be, but I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a lot of fun. It’s pretty cool to see all you fans fill this place and we hope to come back next year. I can’t thank Dennis & Teresa Roth enough for the opportunity to drive this car. My whole Roth Motorsports team has been working their tails off and I’m glad to get them a win.”

Hirst started on pole by way of his win in the dash and held all challengers at bay during the early going. Traffic early on created some extremely close action and Hirst had to work hard to hold off the pressure from various competitors. A red flag on lap 16 slowed things down, but on the restart nothing would slow Hirst as he checked out from the field to impressively pull away and take the checkered flag by over three seconds. Bud Kaeding made some great moves during the feature to earn a runner up finish after the tough luck from the night before.

Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi charged from ninth to third to score his best King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series finish of the season. It was a nice rebound for the 17-year-old, who got upside down in his heat race. The remainder of the top-10 was filled out by Jonathan Allard, Carson Macedo, DJ Netto, Bobby McMahan, Brent Kaeding, Sean Becker and Austin Liggett. Kyle Hirst won the dash, with the three exciting heat races picked off by Macedo, Hirst and Becker. Macedo set fast time to begin the night an 11.570.

The King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series will head next for the 29^th annual Cotton Classic at the Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare on Saturday October 11. It will mark the penultimate event of the season and tickets can be purchased by contacting 559-688-0909. The season finale will take place on November 1 at the Stockton Dirt Track during the 31^st annual Tribute to Gary Patterson. Tickets for that event can be purchased at 916-370-9417. The evening of racing will also feature the Civil War 360 Sprint Car Series season finale.

This event had a great vibe, and most who attended Ventura or Santa Maria had a big smile on their face.

Been going to Ventura since the late 70's.  Was one of the most fun nights of races, and I never really knew who might win the race.  

Wing or Non wing, Ventura's the place to be, especially during the hot september month.  It was fun to escape the heat at both Ventura and Santa Maria

Sure would love to see more double headers (Fri/Sat) at Santa Maria and Ventura for CRA, WC 360, Civil War, KOW, National USAC Sprints and midgets, and hell if we are swinging for the fences, why not WOO.   This weekend showed the fans and racers would support double headers.

Raj did u attend Ventura.  Everyone I saw at Ventura after the races were entertained from the first heat to the main event.  I'll grant u the dash did not have alot action, but after the main when Bud asked  the crowd if they wanted KOW to return next year, the crowd responded with an enthusiastic applause.

The teams/drivers i talked too, ALL HOPED KOW would return next year for mutliple shows.  If crowd attendance and enthusiasm matter, Santa Maria and Ventura would be wise to return KOW in 2015, and like the drivers, I wouldn't mind multiple shows too.

When does CRA race again?  I know Tulare will have 5 nights of action in October for sprint cars, with possible the most exciting sprint car race of year, with the Trophy Cup.  For those who have never attended the Saturday show, u don't know what you are missing.

Glad to see the Ventura, Santa Maria and PAS had great crowds and great racing.  WIng or Non wing, ventura always provides action  

Glad to hear that the Ventura KoW event was a success. If I lived within reasonable driving distance I would attend and support the races there as often as possible. Everyone has their preference when it comes to the subject of wing vs. wingless racing. The weekly 360 sprint series at Ventura is great but I would also look forward to special events like the CRA and KoW shows. Variety is the spice of life. 

anyone that finds any sprintcar race booring , might not really be a sprint car fan ... i was at perris and it was nothing short of an action packed night of racing !! it was just great that real fans had a choice on this night ...

okay Grady,

If thats how you feel I'm fine with it. Seems to me a modified is what I watched run with sprints in eairly '70's. At least thats how they compaired them then. See, they would run them together to make full fields, with and without wings. Depending on the track I attended (Doug Fort's Santa Maria Speedway mostly) which could be any in California. Oh, sometimes the race could be 30, 50, or 100 laps. 

 So, sprint cars are ?

There all exciting "sprint cars", period.

That is unless your a complacent old geezer then they're definitely unwatchable modified sprint cars.

I've probably seen more Civil War races than anything else over the past 11 years or so and they are very exciting, competitive events. I've also seen many VRA, CRA and KWS events and enjoyed all of them. Each is series is somewhat unique and I would have a difficult time picking a favorite. I don't know what it's like from a driver standpoint but from a spectator standpoint I really like the Trophy Cup format and the fact that it is a large, stacked field of competitors makes it a terrific event. Plus the Thunderbowl is one of my favorite tracks. Also really like Ventura and the PAS. Californians are lucky to have so many good tracks and sprint racing series to choose from. I think it's really interesting that some drivers are able to be ultra competitive in both winged and wingless racing. Brent Kaeding and his son Bud immediately come to mind but there are plenty of others including Kyle Larson and Rico Abreu. If I remember correctly Damien G. did a lot of winged racing before he moved into CRA. At the recent KWS show in Ventura I believe the quick qualifier, Carson Macedo, timed in at 11.570.  If the information I've found is correct this means that the official track record at Ventura, set in 1994, still belongs to Ron Shuman at 11.527.  The Flyin' Shoe was flying, without wings. Apparently the wings aren't a big advantage on a smaller track like Ventura. Hmm, a winged vs. wingless sprint car event?  Some people might consider it sacrilege but I have to believe it would be incredibly entertaining. I'm not trying to stir up trouble, just offering observations and encouraging everyone to support sprint car racing.

Yes to all that, been there done that. The series that consistantly got me up and screaming has been the W/C USAC. Have not seen a Civil War show this year, but they have got me off too. Taco Bravo also. Andy Forsberg, posts on Face Book and last nite did a wheelie to avoid a wreck. Mr Excitement for sure.

Is there another 360 club racing series in the country with as wide a feeder geography as this? Discounting the "invaders," it's 443 miles from Huntington Beach to Roseville.

Also noteworthy: Four winners from SoCal, three from NorCal, three from CenCal, and a pair from out of state. (So far; none from Arizona, but...)

Further noteworthy: Last year's champ (#6 in points right now) Danny Faria, (#2 in points) Marcus Niemela, Brody Roa, Bud Kaeding, J. J. Yeley and Mike Spencer have =not= been able to win a race this year. 

this is almost funny . if you are a non wing person you are in the right place . if you are a wing person looking for race results or whats happening in the non wing community , you are in the right place . if you are a wing person trying to convience the non wing community wings are better , you are in the wrong place !

I scream bullshit. It is all racing and it keeps the tracks I go to alive and exciting. So line the kids up on Big Wheels and I will buy a ticket.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.
