I do wish he could have lasted one more year. He has earned the priviledge of a "Farewell Tour". Love him or hate him or be ambivalent towards him, a rational person will respect him for his contributions to the sport of open wheel, dirt track racing.

Good Luck To Sammy... We were lucky enough to have watched Sammy & Steve for years of domination. The sprint car scene will not be the same. Like them or not, they have earned everyones respect !

Very happy for my friend and proud to be a fan. Sammy and Amy have set the bar very, very high - congratulations to them.

Sorry to see Sammy leave but glad it's on his terms.. As far as the ass hating on him, he should be thankfully that Jason Johnson has a better chance at the STN this year if he can even make the A..

If I were a betting man, I would say there's more to this story, for someone who has been racing for so long to just up & leave at the drop of a hat, doesn't seem right. If I'm wrong & there isn't anymore to the story, it's a shame he couldn't show some form of appreciation towards his fans & do a farewell tour like the King is doing. It doesn't add up.

He will be missed , a great driver , a great mechanic and he would have beat Donny Schatz had his Goodyear tire not blown . Intense , focused on his racing at the races and it is admirable that he is helping his son Kevin , another great driver who can drive anything like his father. Sammy another legend in sprint car racing who I had the pleasure to watch with many lasting races fixed in my racing memories .

I have never been a big fan of his, but the man could and can drive the hell out of a sprint car and midget. Hope he still goes to the chili bowl he and kevin put on a hell of a show.

I have a feeling that Sammy and the WRG were not seeing eye to eye. I have a feeling that after Sammy left to prepare for the Knoxville nationals that the world Racing group told him he wasn't welcomed back and then he just told them to stuff it. I guess we shall see. I'll miss not seeing Sammy at the races but life has to go on without Steve and Sammy and Jac can't be that far behind

After all the years and all the wins Sammy's greatest moment may have been standing on his wrecked car bowing to a 20,000+ standing ovation at the Nationals. Great career!

One of the best and helped make WOO what it is.Probably in the league of Karl Kinser when the rulebook was thinner.A fan or not people still paid to see him.We all get older everyday but his will to win never diminished. One thing when we raced if we had an intelligent question he would gladly help .Amy was one of the nicest ladies in racing and Kevin has a bright future just needs to be fan and sponser friendly.I will never forget the crowd response he got when his tire blew while leading the Nationals as the crowd was with him.I doubt there will ever be another Slammin Sammy.

thinking ... the best driver/mechanic sprint car combo (all-in-one) I have ever seen
.... Imo Sammy would have won alot more races if he would have run what was available but that was not his nature
dttfowtm ...

If it doesn't add up you must be lousy at math. He put one last big push into his Nationals effort this year, it didn't pan out and he'll be 59 in October. Doing a farewell tour is not his style and not required or needed. Sammy races to win and not be a sideshow.

I think he just retired from this team. I think he will be back in his own car running the tracks he likes.(next season)
