Kaley Gharst – Tuning Up at Jackson!

(Bill W) August 21, 2014 – Kaley Gharst and the Sandvig #7 team will return to the Jackson Speedway in Jackson, Minnesota this Saturday night in anticipation of the Jackson Nationals the following weekend.  The Decatur, Illinois driver leads the current point standings at Jackson Speedway.  Last Saturday found the team in Jefferson, South Dakota at Park Jefferson Speedway in ASCS-Midwest action.

Kaley would finish fifth in his heat at Park Jefferson.  “We didn’t draw very well,” he says.  “They had had quite a bit of rain up there at the end of the week, and the track was pretty heavy and fast all night long.  We got one car on the start there in the heat and that was pretty much it.”

Starting fifteenth in the main event, he would move up ten spots to finish fifth at the checkers.  “We had a decent car, but it was still pretty tough to pass,” says Kaley.  “It seemed if I did pass two or three cars, I would catch a hole wrong or something.  It was kind of a tough night, but we brought it home in one piece.”

The team brought out their 410 for the Knoxville Nationals two weeks ago.  After suffering motor ills, this was the first time the team had brought out the big iron since the Jackson World of Outlaws show in June.  After a tough timing effort, he passed eight cars in the B main after transferring through the C on his qualifying night.

After running Saturday afternoon and qualifying for that night’s D main, mechanical problems would surface.  “We ended up having a push rod let go on Saturday night,” says Kaley.  “We got through qualifying night and the non-qualifying deal.  It ended up giving up in the end.  It wasn’t what we were hoping for down there, but we’ll see if we can do better next year.”

The team is looking for a win this Saturday at Jackson in anticipation of the ASCS National Series sanctioned Jackson Nationals.  “We’re looking forward to getting back to Jackson,” says Kaley. “We’ll use this week to tune up a little bit for the Jackson Nationals August 29 and 30.”

My bad.  He did finish tenth...typo.  However, he does lead the point standings at Jackson.

He leads JSTS points, not the Jackson track points.
