Hello,

Sponsorships are much harder to come by these days so I am going to try something different to see if I can get results. It may work, it may not but I have to try, right?

I keep hearing about these websites to raise money for whatever reason you can come up with. I thought maybe this concept could apply to my sprint car team.

I’m not dead broke. I’m not asking for money to start my career. I’m a 360 sprint car driver that races with the UMSS series out of Minnesota. I own and drive the car which is a stressful proposition.

Safety is obviously important to me. I use the best stuff I can afford. I am in need of a new fire suit to maximize my safety behind the wheel.

If you’re interested, I set up a page to drum up support to purchase a new fire suit. If you want to support the idea – great! I sincerely appreciate it. If not – no problem. I figure I need to ask the question to get an answer. See below for the link and details.

Thanks for your time and enjoy the races!

Wow, pretty cool and easy way to help out a driver.

How do the funds get transferred?

I think other drivers should do this....other drivers from Colfax whose name rhymes with Dobert Shell

Hi, thanks for your post. This link should answer some questions: http://www.gofundme.com/questions/.

From my research I felt like this was a good, safe website. But with that said I have never donated myself so I am learning as I go.

If I am unable to get enough for a suit, I figured I could still buy new full body fire proof underwear. All I can say is anything and everything helps!

Thanks again,

Chad

Would love to help out but if I need to use a credit card online I only use pay pal. Kind of iffy puting all my credit card info on a site like that these days. Wish that site accepted pay pal.

Hi Oswald,

I don't blame you for being cautious when it comes to putting your CC info on any website. Can't be too careful. For what it's worth I looked it up as to why they don't accept PayPal. Click on the following link for more info. http://support.gofundme.com/entries/21637844-Why-can-t-I-use-PayPal-for-US-Accounts

I appreciate your consideration. Not sure where you are located but my final two shows of 2014 will be at St. Croix Valley Raceway near St. Croix Falls, WI on Sept. 5th and at Cedar Lake Speedway near New Richmond, WI on Sept. 6th for the Jerry Richert Memorial. If you're there, stop by and say hi!

Thanks,

Chad

I understand concern about giving out a credit card # online but for the most part we take more risk with our credit cards when we physically give them to people than the risk is online. Online sites such as gofundme (truly legit sites) take peoples credit card identity very seriously and know what kind of a blackeye it would give their business by that being compromised. In day to day life if you think about it, if someone wanted to be dishonest and get your identity it would be very easy, at any sit down restaurant you give the waiter or waitress your card and they walk out of site with it, it would take them seconds to take all the #s off of it including the security code on the back. If that person took those #s, waited 2 weeks and then ordered stuff online, it would be very difficult to know where it was stolen from. gofundme is a very legit site, its used by millions of people, a movie production was recently funded by crowd funding such as this.

It seems like where we are with online info, no matter how safe we try to be there is always a risk that if hackers set their sites on even legitimate places they can sometimes get in. Example- Sony a couple of years back and Target a year or so ago. I'm not saying don't still use commonsense but sometimes we're told to fear one thing and the bigger risk is actually closer to us than what we're being told to fear.

Ok, followed the link and read how it works. Similar to pay pal. So I feel better about the site now. Pardon an old man for being a little nervous about some of this internet stuff. A good fire suit is very important.  Sent you $100 towards helping you get one. Elbows up & hammer down, good luck with your upcoming races

You do not have to spend $1000.00 on a new uniform.  To be safe you do not need stripes and flames and adv. names on your uniform.  Talk to Blake Robertson or Speedway Motors on uniforms.  These will not be custom made just for you but you should be able to get one that fits.  Also some  drivers get a new uniform every year and you might be able to get a mildly used one.

Come on...the suspense is killing me!  Who is this driver you speak of?

I will just take a guess................Lobert Snell?

Reminds me of a Seindeld episode where Jerry couldn't remember the name of his girlfriend--just that it rhymed with a female body part.

(PS--to all Posse fans that might be slow on this--I am just kidding--I know who he is talking about)

You’re right that I don’t have to spend $1,000 on a firesuit. My first one was like $200. It was a two layer cheap version from Speedway or something like that. But if I want a custom made, three layer, ultralight, and quality made suit then I do need to spend over a $1,000. My current suit is as simple as it gets. The bottom is black and the top is orange. I don’t have any extra stuff on the suit solely due to I didn’t want to spend more money on looks.

I’m very happy with Awesome Racewear. It has held up well since 2011. I need a custom made suit because I am 6’4” and 195 lbs. I use a custom built ButlerBuilt seat. It fits like a glove. So I need my suit to be perfect so I fit comfortably into my seat. Also, the thought of wearing something else’s suit is gross and concerning. I sweat a lot in my suit. I don’t know the history of that suit. Why would I take a chance on safety just to save some money? I will buy a used wheel, used engine, used chassis, etc. but I will never buy used safety gear. Some stuff just has to be new.
