If you could operate a track for 1 night what would you do?
I'd line up heat races by a fan vote...#1 fan vote Starts on the Pole of heat 1...#2 starts on pole of heat 2 ect...Line them up heads up on where they finish in the heats.
At this point the fans would vote to put any driver in the top 5 starting order to the rear.....If the winner accepts..The Bonus is $50 for any car passed in the 23-10 positions - $75 per car passed in 10-5 positions - $100 per car passed in the top 5...and a $2000 bonus to win it...
Top that off with a wheelie contest that pays $1000 to the winner and also supply them with a new set radius rods and a pair of shocks!!!
Wild idea...Never would happen...
Lets hear your wild and crazy ideas!! Don't knock anyones ideas!!! Please!!

I'd offer a bonus of $1000 for quicktime, $800 for 2nd quick, $500 for 3rd quick, $300 for 4th quick and $200 for 5th quick (this should help prevent sandbagging in time-trials).
Once time trials are complete, I'd announce a full invert for the heats (if there are 30 cars, I'd have 3 (10 car, 10 lap) heat races, if there are 32 cars, I'd go to 4 (8 car, 10 lap) heat races. Top 6 or 5 transfer repectively.
Feature invert would be voted on by the FANS in attendance (via text messages). Choices would be 0, 8 or 20. voting won't start until time-trials are complete and invert not announced until feature line-up is announced.
If the invert is 0, $3000 to win, 20 laps, if invert is 8--$5000 to win, 25 laps (car starting 8th or worse gets a bonus of $1000 for winning), if invert is 20--$10,000 to win, 30 laps and a bonus of $10,000 if won by anyone starting worse than 12th.

I'd do like Williams Grove and hope there is a chance of rain. Then I'd cancel early and take the insurance money and run !!!

Well...Tenter that is not a very good race for the fans...In that scenario....You should atleast hold a race for the RVs in the parking lot

Not too much different from what Knoxville already does in regards to the racing, except maybe invert the season points standings up to 10th.
I'd try to get the kids picture taken with the feature winners...
Could be the kids who are part of the Jr Race Fan Club at Knoxville. Kid(s) goes down after each feature win and gets a picture taken. Or after the races any group of kids that what their picture taken with the winners of the night in winners circle can.
I've said this in the past but I'd move that sprint car by the main entrance in Knoxville under the stands, next to the beer, out somewhere by the ticket office at Knoxville, with a representative from Knoxville taking pictures. Heck, most parents now have cell phones so there'd be no reason to charge just have the kids get into the race car and take pictures.
I'd also put the kids and some parents in one of the pace trucks.
During the long intermission have drivers come over to the track and spead the them out in different sections to sign autographs.
Knoxville does a good job with the entire show but there's room for improvement.

Any full half would do and I would water only the top and then I would say run what ya brung instead of run the exact same identicle highly regulated piece that every single other soul runs so some seriously cool balls out stuff would happen for the first time in about 20 years and Haud would have an advantage again over every other boy and girl with a credit card.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

I'd love to do a 'Mopar Million' type race at Knoxville. Non-wing again but coordinated with the WoO and USAC with 1/2 the purse going to the winner this time. The money would hopefully insure that any top sprint car driver anywhere across the country would make the trek and take the lid off. Depending on the car count, run 2 sets of heats, 10 laps with passing points. The first heats line up would be set by the fans on-line in the 2 weeks leading up to it. the second would be an invert of the finish of the first. Then have a $20K hard charger award for the most cars passed in the features, total. Anyone sunk back in the C or D would have a great shot to go balls out for a nice payday. Think we could get 20K people to drop $50 to see that and cover the purse?

If anyone offered me the opportunity to do that I would thank them and repsectfully decline. Knowing several promoters personally that is the last thing I'd ever want to do. It's a thankless job and a good way to make enemies.

I'd do a one night Trophy Cup. 50k to win, 2k to make the show and an extra 2k to anyone that comes from a lower main to the A. Oh and FREE beer to all the fans!

I have never given the idea any thought but I'd probably lean towards the theatrical and give away 50 bicycles and have a live band on the frontstretch during intermission. The first time I ever saw a live band was in the early 60's on the front stretch during intermission. That really made an impression on me, picked up the guitar a few years later and I'll be 63 next month and still haven't given it up. Those are the kinds of things that pack the stands and get families involved and made an impression on me as a kid. The racing would have to be good as well. It would have to be a big special with my three favorite divisions, Sprints, Late Models and Modifieds. Instead of creating my own event I would prefer to lend my support to one that is already established. There's one at the Cedar Lake Speedway called the Triple Crown, Sprints, Lates and Mods. If I had the deep pockets I'd concentrate on making that a bigger show. That would be my promoting wish list.

I'd follow alot of what Bob Miller does with his promotions , give back to fans more in supporting my track or promotion . Seek some sponsors for additional heat money to help with drivers expenses . Change the handicapping somehow , invert first four or six on a regular basis . Would provide more activities during down time , and use recorded National anthems once in awhile along with more music themed to the start of feature and other events during the night .
