the rule reads cannot remove safety gear until approached by safety folks,  on his radio are his spotter not nascar officials.

the rule says not to untill directed by officials or safety workers. and yes nascar can and does communicate with drivers via radio. also nascar can and does at times direct the team to relay info to the driver.  who knows what might have been communicated to green, if anything. the main thing nascar is looking for is for the drivers to stay in the cars till safety workers get there unless directed other wise or if there is a safety issue.

so there is still nothing to stop a drive from flipping another one off or throwing stuff after the safety worker lets them get out of the car!

also nascar said this was a behavioral rule and if a driver did forget that they would handle it on a case by case basis.

i'm thinking if a driver takes off his helmet or even does get out of the car and doesn't do anything but just stand there that they may just get a reminder or warning.
