River Cities Speedway is 329 miles from where I live in Forest Lake, Minnesota, but I had heard a lot about the place over the years. When someone offered to let me tag along back on August 21, 2009 I said sure, why not. I got ahold of Tony Veneziano who was handling the WoO media credentials at the time and got setup to take photos. Wouldn't you know it, a guy who's dad bought his first Sprint Car from my cousin many years ago won the thing. It was especially cool because I know him on a first name basis. We had to wait out about a two hour rain delay before they could even start hotlaps and we couldn't find a motel rooms (people bringing their kids to college orientation) so we ended up doing a redeye home that night but it was worth it.
You might recognize the winner. Johnny Gibson calls RCS his favorite track and Craig knows his way around up there. There are a lot of guys who will spend their entire careers wishing they could win a WoO race and place in the top 5 in the Nationals like he did a couple weeks ago. I think he's got a few more laps left in him.
