I don't know this for sure, but I think know the answer. The WOO group states what the mimimum purse for thier shows are both weekend and weekday. The current mimimum for midweek shows to win is $6,000. However, if the promoter wants to pay more in order to get more cars/prestige, they are allowed to do this. That is why there are several big money shows on the WOO show that pay more than the $10,000 to win.
I am sure that if I am wrong that someone will correct me.
Thanks
Jon

Not quite--any midweek races that paid $10,000 before the addition of the smaller purse for some midweek shows remain $10,000 to win. Ohsweken falls into that category. And not all midweek races pay $6,000 to win. In fact, the Lincoln races this year both paid $10,000 to win after the single race at Lincoln last year paid $6,000. (The smaller purses were introduced to help add races to the schedule--they allow tracks that don't seat enough/aren't cabale of drawing enough of a crowd to pay a full purse an opportunity to host a World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series event. Jacksonville this year is a prime example.)

So is the sanction fee smaller at those $6000 to win shows also? Or is it only the race teams that take a pay cut?

I'd guess the sanctioning fee would remain the same since the operating costs for the WoO and the "tow money" for the teams remain the same.

Is it the track that is responsible for paying the purse or does the WoO pay the purse? If the track pays the purse, even if it is the same sanctioning fee, the purse for a 24 car field is about $18,000 less for a midweek $6,000 to win show than your standard $10,000 to win show. That's a pretty nice discount by itself.

Good question by Oswald. Hey Johnny, just curious, do you and the other WoO employees have to take less pay for those discounted shows like the teams do?

Jacksonville is an extreme example, seating for the event was less than 1500. I get the idea, and think it's good, but when it's used at tracks that have the seating and the fan base to pay the full purse (Lincoln in the past, New Egypt, Fulton), it feels a bit off.
Fulton is capable of seating far more, and is definitely capable (as it has in the past) of paying the full purse. Not sure if this event was grandfathered into the smaller purse given that it replaced an event at Rolling Wheels that was also a smaller purse.

The track owner at Ohsweken is loaded and he treats the drivers very well. While he didn't race this year, to my knowledge he is the only track owner that has raced at his track with the the Outlaws before. After their first ever visit he hosted a big meal and handed each of the drivers a couple hundred dollar bills as a thank you for showing up. Glenn is a real class act....

Well it was kind of tongue in cheek. Pretty sure we know the answer. Just an attempt to point out how the ones who fans actually pay to see are the ones who get hosed on those discount shows. Seems kind of backwards to me. But none of it is my money so oh well.

I understand that the WOO is trying to add more mid-week shows by giving the tracks/teams a purse discount, but it doesn't seem right to me that they still charge the pre-existing mid-week tracks the full purse . Maybe they should do like dishnet or direct tv; give the new customers a good deal for the 1st year and then take them to the cleaners after that. LOL

Did you mean to say their charging them the whole purse?
I don't know the logistics for sure but my guess is the track pays a sanctioning fee which is probably the same for every track and then they pay the purse and with less payout the purse ends up costing them less than a $10,000 to win show. This would be my guess as to why it is more affordable for a smaller track. As far as paying less for saction fee, I suppose they could but I wouldn't want to field the calls on Monday morning from the tracks that are paying full price when they hear others tracks are getting a cheaper rate.

And the operating cost for the teams is the same also.
