100% agree with this. So glad it came out with Schatz on top. Steve Kinser will always be King and what he has done will never be matched. However Schatz has been so dominated in an era where the cars are so close and the competition is so close.

So, Wolfgang is #1 then???
Agree that Schatz is a clear #1 (especially when you take into account the competition level of today's races compared to the 1980's and early 1990's when Steve did a majority of his dominating).
We are probably watching the "best ever" in his prime right now. Imagine Schatz driving the Karl Kinser #11 in the 1980's and 1990's. He may have been un-beatable moreso than Steve IMO.

King is #1 all time, no doubt. I think you can make the case (which has been made on this board before) that Schatz is #2 in the Outlaw era especially if you weight the big races more heavily. Schatz has 20 wins in the big 5 races, 14 in the big 3, which is second only to Steve's 37 and 23.

Fooled me. With Sammy at #3, I figured you were going by past resume. So if Schatz is ahead of The King, there are plenty ahead of Sammy (& I'm a fan of his...)

It's 50-50 between resume and current. But there are variables. Pittman, for instance, is better now than Steve or Sammy. But his resume wasn't enough to move him ahead of them. For instance, if Pittman had 80 WoO wins and maybe another championship, I would have moved him up.
Schatz, not to give anything away, has a really good resume. And even though it isn't as good as Steve's, his current success makes up that difference.

I would be curious to see stats of where Steve was when he was Donny's age (now). Donny's stats are nuts when you consider his age. he could keep racing for a long time if he wants to.

That sounds like a good future story.
