CRA “OFF” UNTIL AUGUST 16 AT PERRIS;

GARDNER WINS FIRECRACKER 40, CODY WILLIAMS #1 AT SANTA MARIA

Damion Gardner can rest on his 111-point AMSOIL USAC/CRA Sprint Car point lead for a while, as the series takes a hiatus until August 16 when it returns to Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Gardner leads five-time champ Mike Spencer after Gardner’s victory last Friday at Perris and Cody Williams’ victory Saturday at Santa Maria, Calif.

Gardner, of Concord, Calif., scored his 30th career victory at Perris Friday night in the “Firecracker 40.” He got by Matt Mitchell on lap three and led the rest of the way in his Scott Sales Company/J & D Performance Spike. Spencer ended up second at the checkered flag ahead of Nic Faas, Cody Williams and Ryan Bernal.

Williams, of Yorba Linda, Calif., snatched the lead away from his brother Austin on the 19th lap and led the final 30 laps of Saturday night’s Party at the Coast/”Doug Fort Memorial” at Santa Maria Speedway. Trailing him were Spencer, Gardner, Austin Williams and Bud Kaeding. Cody piloted the John Jory AMA Plastics/Persall Masonry Spike/Shaver to his first-ever victory in the USAC/CRA series!

"...off until Juy 16 at Perris..."

What a far cry from the glory years of CRA when there were 40-50 races scheduled in a season.

We have a cancelled race on the schedule on Oct 11th we were gonna be part of the Cotton classic. That show has been moved to Tulare. The CRA 410s are not part of it. Is Usac rescheduling somewhere else. The PAS has the fair that week and we are not on the schedule there either.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

VRA vs USAC 360. This coming weekend...

The track was as good as I have seen it. The racing this weekend was first class. Pass for the lead came on the front stretch at the checkers... Sixteen cars, but the racing is better by the week.

Young guns stepping up for VRA, USAC has some of their own and some wiley vets. I think it will be a don't miss show.

Gotta agree

Been there for the last VRA sprint races, not expecting alot, and to my surprise, the main event (s) were awesome.   It was hard to count how many passes (slide jobs) took place (even for the lead)

The comotion at the Beach is back  Smile  The youngster sure mash the loud pedal.  Should be really interesting when the VRA mashers race with the WC 360 mashers.

On paper, this could be one of the best non wing sprint car races this year with a large quality field of 360's on a very racy

If u have nothing to do this Saturday, come out to the beach, enjoy the waves, beach, etc and be prepared for some great racing.

Edit

I meant to say the last TWO vra races have been awesome

Couple of suggestions for Ventura this Saturday.

Make sure the track is not dry slick for the WC 360 sprints (ie run the sprint heats after prepping the track and not after all the support class heat races.

Preferably do not run the WC 360 main last, many of the fans and teams will be traveling from out of town.  I know when the PAS moved up the CRA main event, the majority of fans liked it.

So basically, run the sprint car races (heats, semi, and main) when the track is at its best, and at a reasonable hour. Smile

Track was way better after the Dwarf cars than before it...

Putting in the 20 minute rule saved what was a great track for the Sprints. I think this week with a couple less classes we should see the show run faster.

Let the teams show us how they deal with Dry Slick and then Multi Groove for the main...

Do it in 24 hours, alternating 4 hour shifts behind the wheel. Bring a cooler with snacks and beverages. Pit stops to gas up and bathroom breaks only.  I once drove from Sierra Vista, AZ to Huron, SD in 22 hours, solo. I needed two cups of coffee to see me through the last 5 hours. You guys can do this with ease. Good luck!

Google maps says the route I took, through Rapid City, was 1,566 miles. In 22 hours that works out to an average speed of just over 71 mph. I don't recall how many times I stopped for fuel and bathroom but that's not too shabby. I'll look forward to hearing how you guys do.

p.s. I shaved 96 minutes off the Google estimated drive time of 23 hrs. 36 min. Admittedly not a big deal. My usual cruising speed was usually between 80 and 85 mph. I probably would have been willing to go a bit faster if I'd had a radar detector. Out in the middle of nowhere I did touch 115 but that was only briefly. In many states if they catch you going over 100 mph they take you straight to jail so be careful and drive safe!

Not only do I carry extra things I carry some things that airports may not like. Also nothing wrong with heading east in the morning with a sunrise and watching everything waking up. There's nice country out there and I enjoy driving . Also heading home are some pretty nice sunsets. the only schedule I'm on is my own.
