PRESCOTT VALLEY HOSTS SOUTHWEST SPRINTS SATURDAY
The top-three drivers in the USAC Southwest Sprint Car series have won all but one of this year's feature events. Only Shon Deskins, who ranks fourth in the standings, has been able to crack that circle, winning at Prescott Valley Raceway May 3.
The series returns to Prescott Valley this Saturday night as R.J. Johnson, Josh Pelkey and Charles Davis Jr. battle for the point lead, separated by just 38 points with 74 available.
Johnson, a four-time winner in 2014, scored his worst finish of the season at Prescott Valley, while Pelkey, 27 points behind in second, took third in the May race at Prescott Valley. Davis was the runner-up in the May race and stands 38 points back of the leader in third in the current standings.
Deskins, who hopes to gain ground on the leaders this weekend, is 95 points out of the lead.
