This past Wednesday Mark Huddleston’s father, Langston “Curley” Huddleston, passed away unexpectedly.
For those of you that know Mark, he is a pretty quiet and private person. It just so happened, Curley’s passing coincided with the long awaited ‘Return of Gary Wright’ special event at Timberline Speedway Friday night…where Gary was slated to drive Mark’s sprint car.
When Gary and his crew members learned of Curley’s passing, they sprung into action and took over the ‘car duties’ while Mark tended to his family and situation at hand as the week progressed.
Then, Mark came to the track Friday night. He was unaware if anyone at the track even knew what had transpired other than Gary’s crew. So, it was quite a shock to Mark, when, unbeknownst to him, the race fans, teams and staff of Timberline Speedway had rallied together and collected a large sum of money, then presented it to him to help offset the funeral costs.
It’s times like these when the true meaning of the term ‘racing family’ becomes known.
Curley was Mark’s #1 fan at the race track and he will be missed by all that knew him. Mark would like to thank everyone involved for their generosity and sympathy during this difficult time.
