It could be the case that Pennsylvania Posse fans aren't as bad as the wonderful Hoseheads board would presume. On Wednesday, Robert Ballou - A California Native of all places wink - had his truck to his trailer break down leaving him without transportation to Lincoln. A simple post on twitter saw plenty of people offering him rides to the track and it worked out and Robert was able to get to the track and run without any issues. I'd like to see an official count of how many shirts Robert sold this trip because it was a lot. 48 hours later, Dave Darland had the same issue and the same solution was pursued and completed successfully. Just goes to show that those brilliant individuals that bash Pennsylvania fans for just about everything under the sun, should actually attend a race in Central Pennsylvania - because you'll notice very quickly that we treat our visiting fans and drivers much better than this board would suggest. Just ask Trey Starks, Darren Mollenoyux or Eric Riggins.

Sorry--my encounters have not been that warm and fuzzy.  The main one I remember--pulling into a wayside in Central Iowa to drain my tank on my RV.  I pulled up to where the dump was behind the camper sitting at the dump.  I got out and a lady comes storming up behind me from a camper that was apparently waiting in line.  I immediately apologized and told her I did not realize they were in line and told them I would gladly back out and get behind them.  Do you think this solved the problem?  No.  She went on a verbal tirade and I asked her repeatedly to calm down as it was a simple misunderstanding.  Finally, I had enough--I tried to be as polite as possible.  I told her off and then pointed at her license plates and said "nevermind, I get it now".

Have also had only about 3 or 4 encounters in the stands at the Nationals with PA posse fans.  1 group was absolutely awesome.  The other 2 or 3 groups were a bunch of jerks.

Would like to think this is not the norm, but so far they are batting about .200 with me.

Thought the same thing. In the first story, the woman seems completely justified to be pissed off at some line jumper that suddenly acts contrite or apologetic when called out on cutting the line.  Pretty bizarre that the person actually waiting their turn in line is supposedly the one at fault in the encouter.

I think when it comes to racing everyone is family. Most people will do anything they can to help each other out. Most feuds between racers last less than a week before its back to racing with the "no hard feelings attitude". Sure, some people throw insults back and fourth. Has no one ever argued with their family members before? Some take it a little far. Some react a little harshly. Whatever, it will happen. In the end, remember we all love this same crazy open wheel sport!

By the way, Robert Ballou also had a really funny post on Facebook this weekend. After one of the races a kid came up to him in the pits and asked "Where is the top of your car at?"

Just in case the USAC guys needed to be reminded they were in winged country HAHA. Winged racing this coming weekend for me, and USAC non winged next weekend. Man am I lovin' life!

I have to admit, I was guilty of this also.  Living a block from the track in Knoxville, I have hosted many fans from Ohio, Az, Australia, South Dakota, Texas, etc., and one year when I had people from PA it was the worst experience I have had.  They were crew members and a member of the press.  I swore at that time I would never have anyone from there again.  They were rude, unappreciative, complained about every little thing, and obnoxious.  Since then, I have met many fans from PA and have had no problem with any of them.  One of my best friends from the racing fraturnity is from Carnigie.  Don't judge all for the actions of a few.  By and large, the racing community is full of great people and I cherish the friends I have made because of racing.  I know Mike might jump on me for this but, oh well.  ha ha ha.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Arbo, I have had GREAT times with about 90% of all PA fans over the years, stayed with lots of them and they were all super!  There is a group that hovers around this place that aren't the greatest but that group even seems to be getting smaller.  Even ol' cubic is basically a good guy who likes to stir things up and sometimes gets a bit caught up in his cheerleading, not anything to be stoned to death for.  When the common denominator is 'racefan' for the most part that's the key, if it's 'racefan who has never left porch' it can get a bit ugly, lol....

Actually, you are completely wrong.  At no point did it look like there was a line for the dump.  I was completely blind sided by this woman coming unglued on me.  I had no inclination that the camper sitting 50 feet away from the dump station was in line.  I was very, very apologetic--told her i had never seen a setup like this and was unfamiliar with the way we were supposed to wait--thought we just pulled up behind the camper dumping(which is actually what you are supposed to do).  I then told her i would gladly move behind her--no sinister tone to my voice--nothing.  She just would not let go of it--kept calling me names and telling me I was full of $hit.  It took a solid 60 seconds of her tirade before I finally had enough--there is absolutely no place for any of that.

Some of the other crap I put up with in the stands was second hand--not me dealing with someone else directly.  I had no confrontation with them at all--just close proximity to observe total asshats.

Dealt with some great Posse fans on the 50 year Nationals--they were a great time--hung with them all weekend.

Just saying i am batting .200

Some great baseball hall of famers hit low-mid 200, so sounds like a good thing.  I know as a grove regular, I deal with some of the nicest people around where I sit.  And I have yet to be rude to an "outsider" that told me they weren't from around here.  I usually tell them who to watch who's not to watch, places to eat, stay, visit, and even let them sit in my seats.  I rember one fan saying he was the grandson of the Knoxville owner.  Didn't believe him one bit but still was welcoming to his family and him.

I lived in PA for a time, so I've seen firsthand some real jackass behavior, but there's also some really nice people and whether they are jackasses or nice people, their passion for dirt racing is 2nd to none.

1st of all, baseball hall of famers that hit .200 are called pitchers.  (haha)

2nd--the only interaction that I have had with PA fans is at Knoxville.  The group we camped next to and sat with in the stands 4 years back was a fantastic group of people.  However, in my small sample size, I have a bitter taste in my mouth--especially from the incident at the wayside and the obnoxious and rude fans sitting around us a couple of times.  And I am not someone who sits quietly in the stands and acts like a prude!  I like to have a good time.

I am heading to Gettysburg in July and hope to catch a race at the Grove.  This will give me a much better sample size to deal with.  I hope my feelings are changed upon returning!

(and dont get too defensive--I am from the $hithole state of Illinois--80% of our folks are jackasses too!)

if you leave the grove more pissed off at the fans than you are at the track conditions, you are not a real racefan anyway.

There are jackasses in PA just like there are anywhere else in the country, and probably the world for that matter. Among racefans they are the minority. "We both know that people are the same wherever you go."

That person would be at fault if after receiving a sincere appology, continues to verbaly berate someone for something they already appologized for. How do you not see that as being wrong? Truth tell? Ha!

Other than the half a dozen or so death threats, I've had a mostly positive experience with Posse Fans...   :/

Opinions may vary...

Do you guys actually believe that your zip code has anything to do with being an asshole? Please explain how this phenomenon is possible.

Take this test for me.  Go to Boston.  Try to strike up a conversation with 10 different random people on the street.  Then, go to Alabama and do the same thing.  Let me know who treats you better.  I would put money on the latter.  The difference?  The zip code.

Phenomenon explained.

Ya, because the fans from Ohio, California, Iowa,  etc would have driven right by those guys and not have helped. Sprint car fans help everywhere, not just the great state of PA.
