305's at Susquehanna this Thursday, 305's at Lincoln this Saturday and 305's at Selinsgrove this Sunday. Texas is just too far. And you save the $150 entry fee.

depends on what they get for that $150 IMO.
Knoxville Nationals (and 360 Nationals, and all their other major events) have entry fees.
The difference is that if you pre-enter before the deadline, you basically get all your $$ back and more in reduced pit pass costs for the owner (free) and 6 team members ($30 per night instead of $50 without pre-entry), that's $680 in Free and reduced pit passes over full price by not pre-entering. - Let's say the owner and all (6) pit passes are used all week, the cost would be $100 entry + $0 for the owner + $120 per person in the pits (maximum of (6)) = $820 for the 4 days. Now, no pre-entry before the deadline = $100 entry fee + $200 for the owner + $200 per person entering the pits = $1500 (provided you have (6) people (driver, wife/girlfriend, crew, sponsors). You have to have 4 less people go in the pits to be at the same $$$ amount spent.
So, if they are doing something similar, it makes sense to charge and entry fee (you know how many cars will be there, yet the teams don't actually fork over more $$$ than they would be showing up at the gate, they actually fork over LESS.

What is the point? If you are going to pay that kind of money, why not just make it a professional show? Paying $5,000 to win a 305 show will do 2 things, it will put professional drivers in the 305's, which is not necessary, and it will ask the teams that the 305 class was designed to support to fork over tons of money that could be used to race at more than one show. I just do not understand this desire to connect 305's, which is supposed to be a sportsman form of Sprint Car Racing, to these high purses. Do we want the 305's to become the next ASCS 360's, because that is the direciton in which we are headed. Then what, 4.3L v-6's??????????????????
It is not unlike some promoter posting a $10,000 to win purse for Briggs & Stratton dirt oval Go Karts. It is ludicrous and it defeats the purpose of the class. Just an FYI, I have a 305 car and there is no way that I would enter a race that paid this kind of money with that car, for the very reasons that I posted.

Hate to say this, but there already are "professional quality" drivers in the 305's and 360's and racing 410's, but that hold a regular job and do this for fun and not for the $$$.
Do I think $5000 to win 305's seems a little crazy, yes, but the flip side of that is you go to the pits after the races and listen to 305 and 360 drivers complain about the purses not being high enough for what they are spending to be "competitive".
Not sure what the answer is, but unless they have rules in place that you had to run a certain % of your races in that class all year long, races are open for all that show up.

I agree that some of the purses are too low, but $5,000 is ridiculous. There are also not really that many professional quality drivers behind the wheel of 305 cars. Sure, there are a few, but not that many and VERY few who have a nationally recognized names, like Swindel.
As far as spending money to be competitive, that is a rule book and tech problem. Frankly given the money that some teams are spending they ought to be moving up as well, but that is a whole other issue all together.
I just think that races with payout of this caliber do more harm to the class than they do the other way around.
Maybe a flat rate payout to cover weekly expense and trophies would go a long way towards breaking the back of the spending monkey. Something needs to be done, otherwise we will see the same thing happening with the 305 that we see with the 360's. It is already heading that way.

Total agree. Friday night 13-20 place not worth getting on the track . Not what 305 class was started for.
