Abbottstown, PA – Year after year, the World of Outlaws STP Sprint Cars come to Lincoln Speedway in Pennsylvania, and year after year, they walk away with their tails between their legs courtesy the PA Posse. For the third straight season, the Posse defended their home turf with Stevie Smith in the Rahmer Racing, Don Ott powered #51 XXX taking home the top honors at The Gettysburg Clash.
After timing in 14th quick on the evening, Smith took advantage of every break that came his way. Smith parlayed his pole position start in the heat race into a win, earning himself a spot in the dash where an invert of eight put him on the front row with Jac Haudenschild. Haudenschild held point on the dash early while Smith experimented with lines, eventually finding the bottom the groove and racing past Haudenschild to claim the dash win. The start of the A Main was a replay of the dash, as Smith from the bottom groove shot out to the lead on the start with Haud in tow. A lap one caution set the field up for a double file restart, and on the restart, Haudenschild used the cushion to jump to the advantage while Smith gave chase. As Smith found his groove, the gap between him and Haud narrowed with Stevie eventually using his superior corner speed to pass Jac and take the point. With his Aram Trading, Miller Brothers Chevrolet machine working well anywhere he put it, Smith was a rocket in clean air, only being slowed by lap cars. With traffic looming, Greg Hodnett and Daryn Pittman closed, but the veteran driver changed his line and kept his competition far behind him on his way to his 68th career outlaw win and the first for Sprint Car Hall of Famer Fred Rahmer as a car owner.
In addition, Rahmer’s son Freddie made his first career World of Outlaws A Main in his first event against The Greatest Show on Dirt. Rahmer now holds the distinction of winning his last World of Outlaws event as a driver and being victorious as a car owner in his first Outlaw event as well.
“Fred came up with this idea, and I’m on this because these guys know sprint cars. It’s really cool to have somebody that knows the cars, that’s been a driver. At this point in my career, I needed some help and this is a big race for us to win. I know from driving all these years and my experience – these guys put me here, “ said Smith of his team post-race.
“My kid (Freddie)qualifying for this race, his first outlaw show, I’m so proud of him. And to have Stevie winning on top of it just made the evening for me,” said Rahmer.
Stevie Smith and the Rahmer Racing #51 are sponsored by Aram Trading, Miller Brothers Chevrolet, Tru-Line Contractors, Ken’s Tire, Durr Enterprise and Engler. The Rahmer racing team utilizes XXX Chassis and Don Ott Racing Engines. For team info and apparel, log on to www.fredrahmer.com.
