LoneStar 5th Anniversary Spectacular – Sat. June 14
Kilgore TX (5/14/14) by DarinShort.com. In 2007, Lisa and Sam Hafertepe purchased the defunct and dilapidated property that was once LoneStar Speedway (LSS). On Saturday, June 14th LoneStar is going to celebrate 5 years since reopening the 1/3 mile high-banked oval with the “LoneStar 5th Anniversary Spectacular.”
The night of fun and festivities will showcase the 30-lap “Armadillo Nationals Warm-Up” for Modifieds, paying $2,000 to the winner and $200 to start. A very solid purse is offered: $2,000 – 1,000 – 700 – 600 – 500 – 400 – 300 – 260 – 240 – 220 – 200 (to start); and $100 to all Non-Qualifiers. There is a $50 Modified division entry fee due at sign in on race night (there is no online pre-entry for this event).
Race fans can enjoy this exciting night of racing with no added ticket pricing! As an extra bonus, the first 1,000 fans through the ticket gate will receive a piece of 5th Anniversary cake! There will be added prize drawings as well.
A lot has transitioned in the past 5 years at LoneStar Speedway, including:
- The track was reconfigured to a much more racer- and fan-friendly 1/3 mile configuration. This change has led to a dramatic increase in car count and fan count. As a matter of fact, recently two LoneStar Speedway divisions each had larger car counts in their field than any other race track – in any racing division – within a 10-state area racing that same night
- The increases in fan and racer base have allowed purse structures for the three LoneStar Speedway points divisions to more than double
- Transition to a ‘specials only’ racing calendar; so drivers, fans, crews and workers can spend time with their families on non-race weekends, visit other tracks; etc.
- Implemented a point’s fund, which soared to $13,000 in 2013. A minimum point fund of $10,000 is guaranteed for the 12-weekend 2014 LSS season
- Several rounds of new clay have been brought in each year and incorporated into the existing, including 7 more since the May 3rd race (which was blended into the front stretch)
- New roof put on concession stand
- Pit area expanded into northeast parking area and on backstretch
- New fence and retaining wall installed in corners 1-2
- Free SpeedNet mobile live lineups/results provided to racers and fans for all race nights
- New water truck purchased
There are additional improvements and renovations slated for the future. Similar to when you buy a house, you have a punch list and work on items as you go, as you can; so fans and racers can expect even more in the years to come.
This Warm-Up event on June 14th will give fans a taste of the action to come at the 2nd Annual $10,000 to win Armadillo Nationals will be held on September 25th – 27th. Armadillo Nationals details will be posted this summer, and it is an event you will not want to miss – last year’s racing was fantastic in all three LSS divisions.
The June 14th event is Championship Points Night #6 for all LoneStar divisions and will pay $500 to win and $60 to start for Limited Modifieds, and $300 to win and $40 to start for Factory Stocks. Beginner Factory Stocks will complete the 4-division racing card. Purse breakdown and rules for all divisions are on the track website. Non-Qualifier money is $30 for Limited Modifieds and $20 for Factory Stocks. There is no entry fee for the Limited Modified or Factory Stock divisions; all pit passes are $30. Click http://www.LoneStarSpeedway.com for details.
Adult tickets will be $12 (ages 12-64), while Senior/Active Military are $10, Kids (ages 6-11) are $5, and youngsters ages 5 and under are free with Adult admission.
Fans can expect a great field of drivers from throughout the region competing in this event!
This is our first ‘summer hours’ event of the season with racing beginning at 8pm. We have found that the summer hours program has worked really well in the past, as it helps keep the track in optimum condition during hot summer days.
A complete event flyer for June 14th has been posted under the ‘resources’ section of the track website.
Here are some quick facts for the Saturday June 14th 5th LoneStar Anniversary Spectacular event:
-Pits open at 5pm, Grandstands open at 6pm, Draw Cut off at 7 sharp, Hot Laps at 7:30pm with racing at 8pm

Modified division $2,000 to win “Armadillo Nationals Warm-Up” event qualifying procedure/rules for June 14 at LoneStar Speedway:
Kilgore TX (5/29/14) by DarinShort.com. As this event is a warm-up for the Sept. 25-27 $10,000 to win Armadillo Nationals, we are going to follow the same Modified rules and qualifying procedures used for it. This basically boils down to two points:
1. All Modified races will be started by a white chalk line in corner 4. The front row must both hit the white chalk line at the same time. Front row must keep a steady pace through corners 3 and 4, as we will not tolerate drivers that speed up/slow down, as that causes unnecessary crashes and delays. You are subject to being sent to the back if you do not adhere to these rules. You must be side-by-side, nose-to-tail on starts, no fanning out. All restarts will be Delaware style, with the leader out front and the rest of the field nose-to-tail. No passing until the lead hits the chalk line. This format works very well, as demonstrated at last year’s Armadillo Nationals and each LoneStar Sprint Nationals event; as it promotes fair starts and reduces the amount of crashes at the starts.
2. Modified heats are draw for position, with passing points but no feature race inversion.
The Modified feature race is 30 laps in distance. LSS championship points night. All other track rules are in effect. Modified entry fee (at gate on race night only, no pre-entry for this event) is $50. $2,000 to win and $200 to start. $100 to any non-qualifiers. Complete feature payback: $2,000 – 1,000 – 700 – 600 – 500 (5th) – 400 – 300 – 260 – 240 – 220 (10th) – 200…to start.
June 14th is also a championship point’s night for Limited Modifieds ($500 to win and $60 to start; $30 to all NQ), Factory Stocks ($300 to win and $40 to start; $20 to all NQ). No entry fees, normal track rules and procedures in effect. Beginner Factory Stocks are also scheduled to run a 10-lap feature race. All regular pit pass prices (all ages are $30) and regular grandstand admission prices ($12 for Adults ages 12-64) are in effect.
Click www.LoneStarSpeedway.com or visit the LSS FB page for complete event details and flyer. Details on the 2nd Annual $10,000 to win LoneStar Armadillo Nationals (Sept. 25-27) will be unveiled this summer.
Join us for a night of fun and festivities on Saturday June 14th when the rebirth of LoneStar Speedway turns 5 years old featuring the $2,000 to win Armadillo Nationals Warm-Up for Modifieds!
