From Brian Stickel
Knoxville,
IA (August 7, 2007) - Kasey Kahne will return to competition at the Knoxville
Raceway on Wednesday night, August 8, 2007 as he attempts to qualify for the
47th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals. He will drive the car # 91, owned
by Kasey Kahne Motorsports, and team with Joey Saldana in the Kasey Kahne #9.
Since
last competing in the Knoxville Nationals in 2003, Kasey has gone on to become
one of the dominant drivers in the NASCAR Nextel Cup series, having won 6
events in 2006 for Ray Evernham. In recent years Kasey has spent time at
Knoxville as a car owner
and fan, but the cockpit has beckoned. This year's purse of over $913,000 and
the winner's share of $150,000 might just help pay for the jet fuel between
Knoxville and Watkins Glen, NY where he will practice, qualify and compete in
NASCAR event this weekend as well.
Reserved
seats for the 4-day Knoxville Nationals are still available online at www.knoxvilleraceway.com or at the ticket
windows on race days. Complete event schedules are available online as well.

I was upset that he didn't race last night, but this makes up for it. I'll be glad to be there tomorrow night!

I'd still charge him for a pitpass, and maybe late entry fee!!!

ya know with you guys the kid can't win. he puts together usac teams and woo teams hires talented drivers and makes personal appearances and and even gets in a winged 410 sprinter. all to stay involved in the sport he came up in. sure it is a business to some dergee, but he doesn't have to do it. back in the day A.J. and Andretti and Unser would show up to the dirt tracks to run the silver crown shows. Ken Schrader still shows up to run local shows. how do you know kasey entered late? it seems to me their had to be some planning to get a car ready for him and to make the arrangements to have a crew and rig available for him. could it be that the anouncement was delayed ? maybe it seemed like a better idea to not anounce that kasey would be running the nats untill it was positive in the peoples mind that take care of his scheduling that he would be able to do it. what if it was anounced that he would be running a month ago and he came down with the flu or a cold and just could not run both the nats AND the cup deal? then you would be slamming him for NOT running.
you people gripe because sprint racing doesn't get enough attention, then when someone that can bring some attention to it tries to help out you gripe about that. IMHO kasey is just trying to help the sport he came up in and have some fun too. we know he don't NEED to run the thing, and he is taking a chance doing it. and with an R19 in your name you would think you would have more respect for a washington boy.

i read on the northern california board that the nats was 5th or 7th in the top 10 yahoo searches. nice. to answer your question maybe they can find some young superstar to drive it. maybe even one with national marketing possibilities.

Isn't this Watkins Glen weekend in NASCAR? To my knowledge, Boris Said is driving the Cup car this weekend there. So, maybe Kasey plans to stick around for the week. If not, I'm sure it will be an interesting topic of discussion.

If he makes the Saturday show then he's better than whoever he beat out and deserves the spot just like any other racer. Sheesh - some people's logic or lack thereof really amazes me sometimes....

The only problem I see with Kasey's weekend is if he makes a fast dash on Friday. With time trials scheduled for 2 pm central time on Friday, I'm not sure he could make it back to Knoxville in time to run a dash....or if he would deem the fast dash worth that much jet fuel.
Anyone have any idea how long it takes to get from the paddock of Watkins Glen to the pit area in Knoxville via planes, trains and automobiles?

Maybe this is a dumb question. What happens if he doesnt run the dash?

my thoughts exactly. if he makes the show he earned it. so what if joey makes the show? does that mean he is taking away from another team?what about tk? if kasey makes the dash and is not able to run it will he be scored last in it for just making it?

Like any other show they would use the first alternate I would presume.
I too do not understand the resentment towards Kasey. He is a good guy who as so many point out gives back to the sport of sprint car racing. He has to race into the nationals just like anyone else. Why is there anyone giving him crap?
Slow_sprinter; How do you know he didn't pay a late entry fee? How many pit passes do you think he purchased? How much money has he spent on sprint car racing this year alone? How about you, same questions?
R19 - How do you know he got to pick his night? Do you have inside information to prove that? How many other teams got to pick there night? Do you beleive that if any team was assigned a night and they said they could not make that night that they would not make allowances?
This is as bad as the other Kasey sucks thread.

This puts a big ?? into the whole thing.
A) Knoxville will allow Kasey to change nights and qualify Thursday, flies to Watkin's Glen to practice and time trials on Friday and comes back Saturday afternoon for the dashes.
B) He goes directly to Watkin's Glen and takes care of his "day job" duties and really, really hustles to make time trials Friday night, sticking around until he's done racing Saturday night.
C) Kasey says the heck with it and withdraws from the Knoxville Nationals.
A and B means he will miss final Cup practice....I don't see him flying across the country four times in 48 hours. I wonder if Ray Evernham will allow Kasey to miss final practice with the pending deals involving Budweiser, Dodge and the Montreal Canadians owner?

easy there, John.........teams DO get to pick the night of their preference. If possible, that preference is honored for all drivers. Nothing new for Nats

Ethel - That was exactly my point to R19. Consideration and preference is given to everyone if possible, not just Kasey Kahne.
R19 has deleted his messages so you can not go back to them but his insuation was Kasey was given preferential treatment. Maybe he did not intend it to come out that way and that is why he deleted them.
Sorry if I confused you Ethel.
