The owner of the 59 is dealing with some health issues last i heard the were talking about by pass surgery,,,prayers are with him and the family...
|

Thot it was said, it would be a couple weeks,that was rite b4 WoO at Eldora!!....(rdr116y), that sounds like an AMA Class "C" number??...correct??...mabe in Dist. #36 in NorCal!!....

Yes Brucer its a AMA pro novice number for the west coast raced local races in Dist 35 Hanford Tulare Visialia Bakesfield etc and pro races at Ascot park.........late 70 s early 80 s.....

Ah,ok...Central Valley!!...I only ran Tulare to the So..was from S.J., ran 250 DT-1(113y) indoors,1/2 mi.,Cow Palace,Calistoga,Dixon,few others...only couple yrs hitn miss in late 60's..same time as Kenny Roberts (80y)

This was before your time. But I did go to motorcycle races at Belmont speedway starting around 1949 till the late 50's every fri. nite when i was a young one until they shut down and sold the track for commercial buildings.. AMA Motorcycle racing was very big at that time in the Bay Area. They held the 20 mile national during that time at Bay Meadows before they moved it to San Jose.. A lot of of those riders from that time in the 50's also won several national races and a couple had the honor of getting to use national #1. Also one of the riders Wally Talbot a friend of mine became a sprintcar driver and won the NARC championship in 1963 or 64. I'm sure you probably also know or heard of Smoking Joe 3 time AMA champ, 2 time USAC champ who came within a hair of winning Indy 500 if not for a minor problem..

I seen on the Phoenix racing facebook page where they were looking for sponsership,this was before the health issues. It maybe awhile now if at all. I hope all is well with the owner of the 59 and their return when it is right for them.

know exactly who you're refiring too!!...only Joe was able to win Titles on both 2 wheels and 4!!...had the pleasure of meeting him couple times in S.J. when he n Evel were out at nite makin rounds where they could shake dice at the Bar!!...what a time those two had!!...that was in fact during the time the "IRS" was lookin for his 2wheel daredevil Bud!!......
