Ricketts Impressive in Tenth Top Five Run of 2014! Story by Walker Racing Promotions Kennedale, TX | May 7, 2014 – As John Ricketts started both his 12th and 13th races this season down in Texas, the Burleson native continued his impressiv ...e streak and piled on more incredible stats. Through 13 races in 2014, the defending IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car champion has claimed five feature wins, ten top five’s, and only a mere three DNF’s.
Action kicked off on Friday night as Ricketts took his Burleson Lube Center #5r to Grand Prairie for racing at Mountain Creek Speedway. Heat race action would see Ricketts power his machine from fourth all the way to win as he claimed his fourth heat win of the season.
The feature event would see Ricketts roll off in the eight starting position for the 30 lapper. Another tough, rubbered up race track held the Burleson native from charging all the way. Ricketts quickly moved into the top five where the struggle would become tough to pass any further. The 25 year old sprint car veteran would move into third during the closing laps where he would finish to earn his ninth top five of the season!
Saturday night saw the Ricketts Racing camp return to the familiar ¼ mile of Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale. Another mediocre heat race drive saw Ricketts claim a third place finish and his 13th feature start in 13 tries.
After starting from sixth in the feature, Ricketts immediately took his #5r machine into the top five and set his sights on the sixth victory of the season. Just past halfway the Burleson native roared to life as he drove into second and started to hunt down the race leader. Just as it looked like Ricketts was set to claim another win, the track started to take rubber and allow almost no passing. When the checkered flag flew Ricketts would find himself in second to claim his tenth top five of the already impressive 2014!
“It was good to be able to race side by side with George White again, we raced together back in the old 360 Cowtown days. He is definitely a tough competitor and I always enjoy racing with him!” Ricketts said concerning his performance on Saturday night.
Ricketts will look to continue his incredible 2014 season this weekend as the DGS Motorsports, Shoulders Race Engines, Starman Engineering, Auto Center of Burleson, Burleson Lube Center, Eagle Motorsports, Walker Racing Promotions #5R will once again be competing at the famous ½ mile of Devils Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, TX on Saturday.
