I was just wondering what car count has looked like for the Friday night races in Des Moines, I realize it is just 305s but I cant make Knoxville every saturday, so getting a sprint car fix on fridays might be a possibility if the car count is 20 or so

HMM - looked like Saturday night Knoxville had 18 that are probably within an hour of Des Moines. Think I might have went with the Knoxville rules.

Not sure if Sprint Cars in DSM will ever work out well (although I do like the fact that Tony Moro and crew are trying).
8-10 cars with Racesaver rules @ DesMoines on Friday, 26 @ Knoxville on Saturday (some of them members of those 8-10).
I didn't then and I don't now understand the thought process of starting a new class (they basically told those already racing 305's in the area that they weren't welcome unless they bought a new motor). Seems like Racesaver is a way for someone to make $$$, and it's not the racers.
I see the same thing with IMCA Crate Engine. The "crate" engines for IMCA "A" Mods is supposed to save the racers $$$, yet all the racers I've talked to said they actually cost them MORE to get race ready than their open motors did and they can no longer do any of their own work either (they have to have a "certified" shop do the work and seal the motor. How is that cheaper for guys running for $400 to win??

Looks like Knoxville has a better rules with the motors, than IMCA does.
Wonder how long before Knoxville has 305 C.I. Nationals?

It will be interesting to see what happens on August 10th when there is an afternoon sprint car show scheduled for the Iowa State Fair. Heard it was going to be a 305 show but don't know for sure.
305 Nationals - I'd be surprized if it has not already been talked about. Would be interesting to see what they do for rules and how many would build a new engine just for it.

I'm sure that it would be Knoxville rules with some minor adjustments for engines & tires. Then other cars from the tracks @ 34 Raceway, Des Moines, Denison, Eagle, Arlington, MN & other IMCA sprint tracks around the country could compete as well.

Well that's nice that the imca cars have a nationals - guess everyone else can have a Nationals if Knoville would decide they wanted to have one also.

Do you breath thru your ears ..or do you only see what you want to see...The Iowa Fairground Speedway..not only Invited the knoxville and burlington guys to come race... They CHANGED the rules ...so they could ...and it was posted on this message board for all to read for at least 2 weeks..And IMCA RACESAVER is now the largest growing sprintcar class in the country.

If you & your buddies have a baseball team and you can chose between playing at a high school field or at Wrigley field/Fenway park/Yankee stadium and you feel you can afford to go to any of those places to play, where are you gonna go?
That's why Mathew Stelzer comes to Knoxville from Omaha and Texeira relocated from Honolulu, Hi. McKenna Haase is from Des Moines and races at Knoxville. I did not see her name in the Fairgrounds results. Knoxville is where most folks with a sprint car want to race.
And with the cost of racing a 305 vs the payoff it's not too likely many of these racers can afford to race twice a week.

Knoxville pays the 305's $400 to win, Des Moines pays the 305's $700 to win. The Racesaver is the wave of future for affordable sprint car racing. JMO

Obviously it's working @ Knoxville. At least 15+ new drivers in the class over the last 2 years.

Yep, yet the car counts are 26 for $400 to win and 8 for $700 to win.
It's not about the purse to the racers obviously.....

I guess there are a couple of things I don't really understand;
1) If the Racesaver is the future then why didn't Knoxville go with it.
2) If the Fairgrounds is willing to change their rules to allow the Knoxville and Burlington cars why not just adopt those rules.
This is what I've been saying from the begining EVERYONE needs to sit down check their egos and work together - NOT imca saying this is what its going to be and Knoxville and Burlington NOT saying this is what its going to be. Everyone work off the same set of rules.
This kind of reminds Me of the Old USAC, imca war days, neither group wanted to give anything to work together.

there was a racesaver engine at knoxville last saturday night and it ran very well...why run racesaver rules not the open rules as at knoxville and burlington? eagle raceway in ne adopted the racesaver at the start of last season with 8 cars..they now have 49 registered sprintcars and the show they put on is great..it will build in iowa and with a little luck by seasons end will have a good interchange of drivers from other states.

At the end of last season John McCoy said there was going to be a meeting at the banquet about the 305s and he said he wanted them to consider the racesaver. So maybe the teams didn't want to go with that motor?

I agree with Bill W and like the idea of the inspected and sealed engine rules they have in place. It makes it almost impossible to build a cheater. I wish ASCS would of adapted that when they started. It would of made the price of building one less and would still be affordable for the average 360 racer. You can't take a class with 25 cars and tell them they all have to build a new engine to complete at Kville. If they decide to go that route it will have to be phased in like ASCS engines were. The lure of racing at Knoxville will always be there, but I am sure in time a lot at the teams would run other places part of the time if the rules are the same. I applaud Tony for bringing sprint cars back to the Iowa State Fairgrounds and with the improvements he plans to do I think it will be successful and a great place for the 305's to race.

Both you and BILL W ...are correct and if it helps build the sprintcar ranks ...and brings in new drivers and teams... it will be a benifit to all divisons of sprintcars
