Ricketts Blazes to Fifth Victory of Season at 171, Earns Top Five at MCS! Story by Walker Racing Promotions ( Flat-Out MotorSport Photography) Leesville, LA | April 29, 2014 – It was yet another stellar weekend for John Ricketts, as the Bu ...rleson native rocketed to his 11th feature start, fifth feature win, and eighth top five while competing in action at Mountain Creek and 171 Speedway. Ricketts guided the DGS Motorsports #5r to two top five this weekend alone as the defending IMCA Racesaver champion has continued to impress throughout the sprint car world.
The weekend of action packed 305 sprint racing got underway on Friday night as the Ricketts Racing camp made the trip to Mountain Creek Speedway. A track home to one of his previous four victories, Ricketts has proven to be very familiar with the wicked fast ¼ mile. After losing his point average Rickets would be forced to start ninth in the heat race, but mounted an incredible drive to transfer in fifth.
The feature event would see Ricketts roll off 11th on the grid for the 25 lap event. He would immediately jump up on the wheel, shoot into the top ten, and hunt down a top five as the green flag flew. Ricketts would continually power his Burleson Lube Center #5r past car after car and race into the top five. Just as it seemed Ricketts would hunt down the leader and claim another win, was when the track started to rubber up and slow him down. Eventually he would be forced to settle for a fourth place finish to gain his seventh top five of the season.
Coming off of that impressive top five run, Ricketts was not ready to give up racing for the weekend yet, as the drive to Louisiana landed him in a SUS vs. LBS match up at 171 Speedway in Leesville, LA. Those who didn’t know it was Ricketts first event of the season at I-71, most likely would’ve guessed he was a seasoned veteran of the tricky ¼ mile.
Heat race action would see the Burleson native drive from 4th to claim his third heat race win of the year. This powerful drive earning the Texan the pole position for the feature event. Jumping out to the early lead, Ricketts would quickly gain a challenge from Koty Adams and the two would begin an all-out battle for the win. Lap after lap, not giving an inch and fighting for the victory as Ricketts and Adams provided the fans with a showing of the ages. In the end it was once again #5r that claimed victory as Ricketts fought off all challenges to claim his fifth victory of the season!
“I love how at home the Louisiana group makes us feel and just how good the racing can be. Adams and I raced nearly every lap back and forth not giving an inch and never touching, and my group of guys make my job inside the car so much easier! Can't thank everyone enough for what they do!” Ricketts Said.
Ricketts will look to continue his incredible 2014 season this weekend as the DGS Motorsports, Shoulders Race Engines, Starman Engineering, Auto Center of Burleson, Burleson Lube Center, Eagle Motorsports, Walker Racing Promotions #5R will once again be competing at Mountain Creek Speedway on Friday night and at Kennedale Speedway Park on Saturday for fan appreciation night.
