Hey all from Williams Grove area--I am coming to Gettysburg area on 4th of July weekend and I see on the schedule there are races that night. I know I poke fun at the Posse--all in good fun--but I have been wanting to see a show in your neck of the woods badly. We will be leaving early Saturday morning for Maine and I need to convince my wife we can pull this off with the kids, etc. I know it is a special show, so:
1. What time do the races usually start?
2. Is the show fairly quick? Done by 10? 10:30? 11? (not that i care--trying to convince my wife!)
3. How is traffic/parking situation after races? How long to get back down to Gettysburg after races end?
Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!!!

Don't miss the spectacular fireworks show. That track is going downhill and needs new ownership, badly. She needs to take some notes from Port Royal ownership.

It's the crown jewel of Speedweek, the Mitch Smith Memorial, definately take in the show if you haven't before.
They should start with warm ups at 7:30 and go directly into time trials. Unbelievably they do have a support division on the schedule this year, so it will be a little later than normal.
Leaving the track can take a while sometimes.

It's 30 minutes from Gettysburg to the Grove...Route 15 north, route 74 north, right on Williams Grove road, two mile and the track is on the left...Park on the back pit entrance area, get your ticket at Beer Hill, grab a shot of beam from Stew, cross the bridge, through the infield, through the tunnel and sit on the fronstretch...
The racing generally stinks on wheat toast but the locals try to tell themselves otherwise...Hope this helps...
Opinions may vary...

Hot laps should start @ 7 or so with 410 TT @ 7:30. 358 late models are sceduled as well on July 4th, but the 410 feature will be run 1st. To beat the traffic, you could leave after the 410 feature. Also your wife and kids may enjoy the infield over sitting in the stands. set up some lawn chairs to sit but plenty of room to walk around the inside of the track and good view of the pit area. Treat yourself to a pit pass and leave the wife and kids in the infield...easy pit access so you can walk back and forth between the pits and the infield. Depending on the number of cautions and "non-racing" delays, 410 feature could be over by 10:30 to 10:45.

I suggest the same thing as railfan33 of taking lawn chairs and a cooler into the infield with the family. If you park just ouside the track entrance in the one turn you will be really close to the tunnel exit/entrance to the infield and you should be able to get out fairly easily after the sprint feature. One other thing that you might want to consider is saving some seats up in the grandstand on the frontstretch for a little better view of the racing. Very easy to go back and fourth from those seats to the infield in the 1st turn.

Plan to leave the family either before or during intermission and try and meet some of the regulars, you'll have a few laughs for sure. Beer Hill will likely be the best place and it won't be tough to shake a few paws and swap a few lies, enjoy....

eat before you get to the track...or grab a bag of Arby's roast beef sandwiches...the track food is "institutional quality" at best - but then again, kraut dogs are hard to screw up.
