Oskaloosa Wednesday, Independence Friday, for Sprint Invaders!
(Bill W) April 14, 2014 – One of the most exciting weeks of the season is upon us for the Brockway Mechanical & Roofing Sprint Invaders. On Wednesday, April 16, they will take to the half-mile at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa. On Friday, April 18, they make their way to the Independence Motor Speedway in Independence, Iowa.
Inquiries from drivers around the Midwest have come in concerning these two highly anticipated events. With Knoxville Raceway opening their season on Saturday, several area drivers are rumored to be in the house at both Oskaloosa and Independence.
Wednesday will mark the first appearance for the Sprint Invaders in Oskaloosa on a night sponsored by WCM Metal Works and Pro-Line Buildings. The last winged sprint car event there was won by Brian Brown at last August’s Front Row Challenge. Several Knoxville regulars are expected to make the short tow to the Mahaska County Fairgrounds.
The first event in Sprint Invaders history and the first sprint car race in twenty years in Independence last season was a huge success that saw Terry McCarl best Lucas Wolfe for the win. The banked 3/8-mile oval boasted a great night of racing at one of the finest racing facilities in the Midwest.
Defending series’ champion Russ Hall will lead the Sprint Invaders charge into Oskaloosa, fresh off his win on Saturday, April 5 at the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson. Lincoln, Illinois’ Bret Tripplett leads the current point standings ahead of Knoxville’s Tony Shilling, Jon Agan, Bobby Mincer and Josh Schneiderman.
Pit gates open at 5:00 on Wednesday in Oskaloosa, with the grandstands opening at 5:30. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 with racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $7 ages 7-17 and 6 and under FREE. The sprints will be joined by mods, sport mods, stocks and hobby stocks. For more information, visit www.OskySpeedway.com!
Pit gates and grandstands open at 5:00 on Friday in Independence. Adult admission is $15 and $13 for Seniors and students 12-17. 11 and under are FREE with a paid adult. Mods and sport mods will also be on the card. For more information, visit www.IndependenceMotorSpeedway.com!

I was excited about this Osky race until I saw there is 4 IMCA support classes. It's 125 miles one way for me and all of those IMCA cars would mean a very late night getting home and with work in the morning it just won't work out unfortunately. Hope it's a very succesful show for the Sprint Invaders!

This show will be ran very quick. A week ago in Donnellson we ran 6 classes including the Sprint Invaders and was done in three hours (110 cars). Sprint Invaders will be ran towards the front of the program so you will be on the road early if you decide to come. As everyone knows I run a fast efficient show. We average 2 1/2 yellows per night over the last 2 years in Osky. Good clean racing is what you will see this Wednesday night If you make the trip. if your a Sprint Car fan there is no reason you won't be on the road by 9:30 to 10:00.

I will vouch for this. Mike VanGendren runs a very effecient program and will have a well-prepared track.

Sprint Invaders race scheduled for Friday in Independence, Iowa has been postponed due to a lightning strike/power issues to Friday, May 30.

For any Knoxville regulars, a reminder that the Sprint Invaders are on Hoosier Tires now...

Too bad he doesn't run the show at knoxville. A lot of dead time between races and always a late start.

Just wanted to give you some recognition. Dropped in for Osky tonight. You absolutely run an efficient event. Cars staged early and rolling out as previous race is exiting. Sprint feature mid-show and complete by 9:15. I had to exit but hope you were able to complete the remaining two features without rain interfering. Well done. Thank you.

We appreciate everyone who came out. I thought the Sprint Cars put on an awesome show. They also went green, white, and checkered.

It was also nice to watch Sprint Cars at Osky not just bang around on the cushion. Those guys were all over the track from top to bottom.

I can count on one hand the # of times Knoxville has started late the past 3 years and I was home BEFORE DARK a coulpe nights last season after the races go over.
I wouldn't ever say Knoxville runs an "in-efficient" event. Are there times I wish they'd go faster? Yep, any night it's really cold for sure.
Mike has done a GREAT job at Osky, but everyone seems to be comparing Apples to Oranges when trying to compare Osky to Knoxville (2 different tracks, different formats, different CARS - outside of the Sprint Invaders being there).
Osky ran the Sprint Invaders (20 cars) and 4 IMCA classes (in IMCA, you bring out hte yellow you go to the pits (for any reason), so even when a guy spins out, the yellow doesn't come on, the car is just 3/4 of a lap down, so their heats almost ALWAYS run non-stop (unless something weird happens)).
Knoxville runs 3 classes of Sprint cars and all divisions will probably have a B-main this season. - Throw in qualifying on top of it and 10:30 PM end time is about right. What time did Osky end last night? Wasn't there, but a Wednesday Night with school the next day, the racers, fans and community EXPECT the races to get over by 9:30 PM.
I commend Mike and his staff for bringing Osky "back" from the brink of extinction (wasn't that long ago when I thought Osky would cease as a weekly track due to low car counts, a terrible promotor and ZERO track prep. Mike is doing it the right way and car counts are increasing, his promoting is excellent and the track has never been in better shape. I'd like to see Mike try a 410 event on a Friday Night sometime to complement Knoxville (I think the crowd and car count would be good even for a 2 division show (410's with 360's or 305's as Support).

I went to the race and enjoyed myself. The track was good, the caliber of the drivers and cars were good and I was leaving the parking lot at 9:30. Job well done!

30 minutes later than they should have IMO (I was selling 50/50 tickets under the concourse, but I didn't hear pushtrucks packing the track after 6:45).
Don't know if they were delaying due to the line at the ticket office (many people waiting in line 30 minutes or more to buy tickets), or if they were just that un-organized this week (kinda surprised the PA system worked without glitches since they were still installing it Saturday morning).
Either way, it's not a good way to retain those newbies that were in the stands (I will say they did a GREAT job of promoting opening night and that was the most kids I have seen at the races in my entire lifetime for a weekly show).
