I say if they want to change it to just 6 cars with heat race winners and top 2 qualifiers, (or 3 with 3 heat format) that the fast qualifiers, quick time, 2nd quick and so on, should at least have to finish in the top 4 to keep their time and transfer to the dash.  In all reality they can run a fast lap by themselves and simply ride through their heat race and know they are in the dash.  If you make them to at least have to hold their spot I think it would make it more interesting.  The way it is now they don't ever have to pass a car and can even be passed in their heat race and still start up front.  They might not need to pass a single car all night long.  Why not put some sort of insentive out there for them to at least finish in the top 4 to get in the dash.  Just my 2 cents on the new format.

the fast qualifiers that you speak of have to still transfer into the main from their heats. they can't finish last and still be in the dash. the 1st and 2nd fast time cars start 4th in their heats, so if you think they need to at least finish 4th, they are already there if they hold their position.

don't the woo take the top 5 in heats to transfer into the main in a 4 heat format anyway?

I am well aware of the old format.  The only tweek I would make would be that the fast qualifiers have to at least finish 4th to qualify for the dash.  5th place would still put them in the main but would put them behind the dash cars. 6th or worse puts them in the B like usual.   Nothing major, but at least make them sustain where they start. 

Should take the heat winnners and the next 6 fastest that transfer to the dash for a 10 car dash in the four heat format.  If 3 heats then 7 fastest that transfer.  The dash should have a pill draw still for invert.

I think too make it more interesting, instead of maybe drawing an inversion pill do what you are saying with the heat winners and six fast timers. Starting ten cars, but having the numbers 1-10 in a hat, and each driver draw. They take the time to interview the top 8 anyhow. Might as well have them all draw for starting positions. Drivers draw in order based on qualifying time.

And I think that since mama bears are called sows and mama pigs are called sows that baby bears should be called piglets.
