Ventura Raceway continued its 2014 season with a full program of exciting short track racing action featuring six adult classes and three junior divisions battling on the 1/5 mile Ventura oval. Racing was exciting and fast paced on the night with racers battling to score points in the new season.

Tom Hendricks took his first win in 2014 leading all 30 laps of the VRA Sprint Car feature. His win puts him in second place just behind point leader Guy Woodward after two events. Following Hendricks to the checkered flag were Rick Hendrix, Guy Woodward, Richard McCormick and Kyle Smith. Fifteen sprint cars were signed in and in heat race action wins went to Don Gansen and Rick Hendrix.

VRA Senior Sprints continued their season with one heat race for the 6 cars in the pits. 2014 Champion and opening night main event winner Clif Warren took the heat win. The twenty lap feature was all Steve Brown as he put his number 27 out front and was never headed. Clif Warren challenged hard but was unable to get by the 2013 Senior Rookies of the Year. Chris Meredith brought out the red flag with a flip in turn one. He ran up over Wally Pankratz's wheel and went for a ride that put him out of the race. Following Brown and Warren to the finish line were Mike Cook, Wally Pankratz and George Tuttle.

In IMCA Modified action, Dennis Fckert was the dominate driver in a race that started 16 modifieds. From his outside front row starting position he was able to pull out a half lap lead over the stellar field of top IMCA competitors. A yellow on lap 11 took away his lead and brought the field to him. On the restart he was again able to pull away as the field battled for position behind him. In the end he took the win over past track champion Donald Houghton, opening night winner Josh Vogt, Dave Phipps, and past champion Austin Rodarte. Three heat races were run with wins going to Austin Rodarte, Dennis Eckert and Josh Vogt.

VRA Mod Lites were on hand with seven cars in the pits. The night's 20 lap feature was a battle between 2013 champion Ricky Lewis and the Calvos, George and Kevin. But try as they might they could not catch Lewis as he took his first win of 2014. Following Lewis across the line were Kevin Calvo, George Calvo, Dave Dotson and Jeffrey Fry. They ran one heat race with the win going to George Calvo.

Zack Peterson continued where he left off on opening night with another feature win. The two time track champion passed Scott Olsen on lap 56 to take the lead and go on to take the win over Bruce Fink, Jeff Long, Mira Cook and Trent Morley. Mira Cook and Zack Peterson took their two 8 lap heat race wins.

Focus Midgets opened their VRA season Saturday night with 2014 Champ Brennan Rogers taking the 20 lap main event victory over Zac Bogner, Jet Davison, Courtney Crone and Dylan Ito. Randi Pankratz took the one heat race win.

In Junior action, wins went to J D Brown in Mini Dwarf Superchargers over Garret Egan, Sandy Brown Dalton Houghton and Will Mimms. Zack Chavez took the Mini Dwarf Piston win over Blake Hendrix, Christian Bazen and Brandon Velasquez. In Junior Midgets, Mike Long took the win over Nick Velasquez and Cinnamon Brown.

Racing resumes Saturday night March 29, with a full program of exciting racing featuring VRA Sprints, Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks, Sport Compacts, Focus Midgets, Go Karts and our kids Divisions.
