Ricketts Powers Past Trouble, Earns Top Five at KSP!

Story by Walker Racing Promotions
Kennedale, Texas | March 2, 2014 – A field of 26 RaceSaver Sprint Cars made their way to Kennedale Speedway Park last night for the Spring Kick-Off, a f...ield that included the 2013 IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car Champion, John Ricketts. The Burleson, Texas native was looking to kick off his title defense campaign with a bang, which he nearly did.

The very first heat race of the season saw Ricketts drive his #5R machine from 8th to 4th and earn a spot in the A-Main. Come feature time Ricketts would find himself lined up in the 6th position for the first main event of the year.

The ensuing feature event would be filled with ups and downs for Ricketts. After starting off strong and moving his way into the top five, trouble would strike as the jacobs ladder straps broke about 10 laps in. Struggling with a horribly tight car for more than 20 laps, Ricketts persevered and was still able to hang tough and finish 4th.

Considering the challenges the Ricketts Racing camp faced during the night, it ended up being a stellar top five run to kick off the season. Also getting more track time on a speedway he is scheduled to race at 21 more times throughout the season will be vital to his success at KSP.

“The car was bad fast and I felt like I had a winning car, but probably about 6 or 8 laps in I broke my jacobs ladder straps so I got insanely tight at which point I just wanted to hold on to a top five. I still feel really good about the upcoming races, and I think we will be sitting in the winner’s circle really soon!” Ricketts said, recapping his night.

The DGS Motorsports, Shoulders Race Engines, Starman Engineering, Auto Center of Burleson, Burleson Lube Center, Eagle Motorsports, Walker Racing Promotions #5R will be back in action next weekend once again from the Kennedale Speedway Park for the first points race of the season.
