I am not surprised that the thread was deleted.  The same thing happened on the Williams Grove message board.  As I have made clear other times…I have never focused my racing attention on the sprint car portion of the sport.  My main focus is the stock cars.  That is not a knock on sprint cars…they just are not what I grew up on.  But..That being said…I think it understandable that I would not be an onlooker at either the Williams Grove board or this one here at Hoseheads.  The reason why I posted threads on each was that it is obvious that if I wanted to offer my research work to the sprint car fans…you go directly to where they would be exposed to the offer.

Later, after posting, I was informed by other race fans that ARE big time sprint car fans, that both forums have seen a serious downturn in their content over the past years.  I have seen so many racing forums be allowed to descend into a quagmire of petty back and forth back stabbing a petty arguing over the mundane.  Racing forums had, and maybe still have the potential to be such great tools for communication and information…yet, an unfortunate percentage of those who use them ruin it for the rest.

That being said….I have had the offer of the Fred Rahmer career win list out there for over a week now between this forum and others, as well as Facebook and the response has been anticipated and well received by those who can see past the blur of passion and paranoia and appreciate the works intent and purpose.  The reaction on this board…as well as the Williams Grove board before that thread was taken down actually helped in my mission.  That mission being the final step in getting the list in the hands of fans that could actually help in completing it.  It was all clearly explained in the letter that accompanies the list when I send it out.

I was never anything less than professional and polite when dealing with the subjects in this deal.  In fact, I mentioned early on that if I at any time crossed the line and was a pain in the ass…to let me know and I would not “bother” them again, as I can move forward with my task without outside help.  I was never told that I was in any way a bother until after I mentioned the possible discrepancy in stock car totals and then I was told that I was harassing a certain person.  I have each and every communication documented to prove this point to cover my back.

I understand the passion race fans have for their sport and even more so…any favorite drivers.  However, when passion and paranoia blend together, a person denies themselves the opportunity to stand back and take an objective look at the facts being presented and make a rational decision about the intent and purpose of a particular effort.  If anyone cares to take a good look at any of my posts about this offer, they will see that I have been civil and kept it professional.  However, passion and paranoia being what it is…those that chose to post negative responses only served to fuel the fire and it took on a life of its own.  I will say…those that kept up with the negative posts in the original thread only served to further my effort by making more fans interested in seeing what all of the ado was about and eventually got in touch with me to take a look at the list, and in essence…exposing more fans to the list and broadening the possibility that someone may come up with an obscure win that might have been missed.  As I have stated in the past…I call it the final stage in completing the lists.  I don’t believe that it has ever come into play as my lists, as well as those of others, have very rarely been called on the carpet and found to be incomplete.  As it happens…with this Rahmer list…it did happen and we managed to find one more stock car win at the Fulton Speedway….so the system works…to the benefit of Rahmer's career stats.

I fully expect this post…or maybe the entire thread to be deleted.  And if it is…it would go a long way towards providing evidence of what I was told from the other fans I referenced earlier in this post.  So, with that…there will probably be no further word of it from me…my purpose has been served over the past week.  Like my other work on lists and those of another person who collaborates with me and does his own lists, the Fred Rahmer career win list will be added to all of the others on a racing stats website that asked us to allow the inclusion of them since the webmaster of that site saw the importance of trying to capture and validate and preserve some part of the history of our sport that seems to be so damned lacking…to the loss of us all!

I had an individual contact me yesterday (Sat) to plead with me not to let the negative response to this whole Rahmer deal deter me from moving forward with other efforts in the hopes of preserving a little bit of our sports history.  And of course…it won’t.  Not even a phone call from someone…and I am sure that he will recognize himself…not even the phone call that contained foul language and a thinly veiled threat.  Which if it happens again…there will be a nice chance of a legal situation arising.   Forewarned is forearmed!

So it you are reading this post…and you think you may be interested in anything I may have…be it the list. The letter of explanation on how I went about ascertaining the information contained within the list and/or why any wins were not included on the list, or anything else……please feel free to contact me at [email protected]   I would recommend that if you have an inkling that you might be interested in the future to get this information to jot down this address as I would bet the farm that it will be deleted soon.
