Peter Brings Home a 3rd and 6th Place Finish With Elite Racing!
By Gary Costa
Chico, CA – July 27-28, 2007 …With a break in non-wing SCRA Sprint car action. Peter took the ride from his Clovis home to Chico; to drive the stout Elite Racing winged 410 Sprint car in the final two Golden State Challenge Series Sprint car races at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA.
Versatility shined on Peter as a race car driver this weekend, as he is coming off of a big 50-lap non-wing win at Hanford the previous weekend July 21st. With that win, it also marked 5-consecutive SCRA main event wins.

With the wing bolted on for the weekend’s festivities, Peter would be teammates with the well respected Ronnie Day. This would be the first time Peter has driven the Elite Racing #9, and it also marked the first time that he would see Chico’s surface for quite some time.
Friday: Peter quickly got re-acquainted with Chico’s clay and qualified in the 4th spot, out of the 32-car field. He then transferred out of his heat, which put him in the dash. He then went out and won the dash, which put him on the front row for the tough main event. Peter would have his work cut out for him however. In the fast paced main event, Peter was having brake problems, but still managed to bring the car home in the 3rd spot. No excuses, we were happy!
Saturday: Before the race, the Elite Racing team worked hard and changed everything that pertained to the brake system. Peter would qualify 12th, out of the 31-cars in attendance this evening. Murphy then finished 2nd in his heat race. And for the second strait evening, he proceeded to go into the dash, where he finished 6th. In main event action, Peter brought home a solid 6th place finish to top the weekend off.
We would like to congratulate Brent Kaeding and the Hogs as this was thier 13th King of California Championship!
You had an excellent run in Chico with Elite Racing! “Oh man, did I! The whole weekend was just great. It felt real good to be back in Chico, and to be able to see all of the fans. The whole Elite team busted their butts Saturday to fix the brake problem. I can’t thank all of them enough for their hard work and dedication. I felt really good in the car all weekend, and they are just a great bunch of people to drive for. I have a lot of respect for Ronnie Day, and to have him as a teammate, and have both cars run well, it was just awesome!”

On Tap! Peter will be back in the familiar Tom Tarlton owned non-wing Sprint car this weekend August 4th, shooting for an unbelievable 6th strait SCRA main event win. Peter is also currently the point’s leader in the series. You can catch Peter on the loud pedal at Bakersfield’s Speedway!

Question of the Week! Sprint car veteran Rickie Gaunt comments on Peter: “There have been a few guys like Lealand McSpadden, Jimmy Sills, Chuck Gurney, Ronnie Shuman, and Brent Kaeding that are real versatile race car drivers that would run with the wing and without. Out of the new group of guys, Peter is the one that got back into that. He will race anything and be competitive. When Peter straps in that race car, he‘s going to give you 110%. He is the toughest damn competitor that there is! You crash Peter out, he’s not going to whine to an official. Peter Murphy will send you out of the ballpark the next time you strap in. What you see is what you get, no phoniness in Peter at all”
Peter Answers!”Wow, how am I to respond to that! I have so much respect for all of the names Rickie mentioned. I also would like to thank him for saying those kind things about me. I just try and race people like they race me. I love them all, non-wing cars, winged cars, it doesn’t matter. I just love to race Sprint cars. I love this sport, and am lucky to be able to do what I do.”

Peter Murphy Racing would like to thank everyone at Elite Racing for the opportunity to drive for them this past weekend!
