.As an ex-Gran Prix enthsiast and ex-ski bum, the news of Shumacher's fall while skiing is a bummer. Even his helmet did not protect his head when it hit a rock, which says he must have been doing a high rate of knots. Well, could we expect a 7 time world champ to do anything less than flat out.
In may day Jimmy Clark was the best Gran Prix shoe, but Shumacher's 7 Gran Prix chamoionships prove he's the best.
Gute Besserung. Michael

I know it's uppity rich kid, hideously ugly, way-too-much-about-the-money, hyper-marketed, winged weed-eater, rear-engined, giant go-kart racing... but 91 wins, 68 poles, 77 fastest laps, and a podium finsh at 43 in a series where you're lucky to run past 30 even if you're really, really good... says the guy was truly amazing at what he did. If you've driven shifter karts or even those Malibu Grand Prix Virage cars, you may have some sense of how grueling and risky it is to run even ten laps in those European rocket ships. Bon chance, Michael.

If I remember he had a podium finish in almost half of his races -- and that counts the lackluster three years when he came back out of retirement. Truly an amazing career. This is almost reminiscent of Mark Donohue's crash and brain injury as he also was conscious after the crash. Hope Michael's results are better than Mark's.

Speaking of Mark Donohue, my memory of Mark was at SCCA meets. In a pink driving suit, driving an Elva Courier, at Thompson, Lime Rock and Bridgehampton. Thought he was good, seems Penske thought so too. At that time Penske was in a Cooper Monaco going head to head with Peter somebody in a Lotus Monte Carlo. Thing Peter ? was a Canadian who was later killed. Those rich guys went at it as seriously as anybody.

What I do know is the Gregg's path crossed Donohue's many times in their careers as did Peter Revson.

Peter Ryan. Actually American From Quebac. Here is a blurb from Wickipedia.
In July 1961 Peter Ryan (Comstock Sadler-Chevrolet) was leading the Meadowdale Grand Prix when Roger Penske (Maserati birdcage Telar Special): "banged into him from the rear on the 18th lap." Ryan clung on to the lead, but after spinning recovered to finish second.
Wow, Wickipedia has every thing.
Bird cage Maser, how we drooled over Masers in those days.
