Wanting to try to go to PA in 2014 and visit some tracks. Would it be better to come for speed week or the WoO show in the summer at the grove?

Will be coming from little rock, AR

Any idea on when speed week will be?

I feel you will see better racing for PA Speedweek.   It is usually the last week in June, into the July 4th holiday!!!

There are alot of different tracks running different class in the area as well!!

PA Speedweeks is overrated in my opinion. if you go for the outlaw week, you can see lernerville Tuesday, Lincoln Thursday and a 2 day grove show. Better fields and one of the best atmospherea in sprint car racing for posse versus Outlaws.

Hello. Been to both and I would recommend WOO shows.  As said great atmosphere.  Maybe even a better this year with Kinser's last year.

Outlaw shows pull more crowd and better fields and you dont have to deal with support classes !

Would you suggest going for the May or July outlaw swing. Looks like I can get an extra night in with the July swing

If your July swing means you can hit a Lincoln WoO show, I highly recommend it. If it means you can hit both Lincoln and Lernerville, then well, it's a no brainer.

My reco is the July dates.  The place will be full and you can see the races at Lincoln and Lernerville if you have time.  Keep in the mind the racing is no where near as close & exciting as I-30 in LIttle Rock (or Lincoln or Lernerville) as the they get pretty spread out during the race.  Usually there is some drama in the A main which makes the finish exciting.  The best part of the racing is the Outlaws vs Posse which

However, this place has the best racing atmosphere in the nation.  Raceday is like gameday for a SEC football game with the us vs. them mentality (WoO vs. Posse) The campground is full of diehard, passionate fans with music, cornhole and lots of grilling.  Inside the track there are several areas to experience such as turn 1/2 infield (practice/quals), turn 3 beer hill (heats) and the frontstreatch for the A main.  Be sure to bring a cooler of beer to the track as they don't sell inside.

Keep in mind the July dates are hot as hell so bring your RV w/ AC and/or bring some shade.

im not gonna say pa speedweek is overrated but late july u have 20grand at l-ville. woo at lincoln then the summer nats at wg for 20grand.  for a sprint car fan dont get much better than that. but if u can swing a trip up here for the fall, just stay at the grove all week for the national open. u wont b dissapointed.

Thanks for the input folks. We are gonna try to do the july woo swing and go to New York on the end. Is lodging at a premium during this week?

I would definitely try to attend the Summer Nationals. Speed weeks are ok, but like it was previously stated there are some nice races around that time to see also.

this is an excellent point...if you bring your own idiots...bring extra band aids but don't worry too much about bail money if you are running low on cash - seldom do idiots meet with justice during the popular events at the Grove.

Kevin, it depends on how much racing you want to see. More races at more different tracks are scheduled around speed week. The crowds and fields of cars are smaller, but what you get is a better representation of what central PA sprint car racing is all about from the diehards that have made it such a great racing area. The outlaw shows draw much bigger crowds while the WoO regulars added to the mix makes for the kind of quality fields of 410 sprint cars equal to or superior to any place but Knoxville. The WoO deal also stops at my favorite PA track, Lernerville. I've only missed a few of the Commonwealth Clashes there over the years, because a bad WoO show there is better than many other shows. The location brings a bunch of OH guys into the mix, adding to the quality of field. It's a tough choice, but speed week gets my vote.

I meant Silver Cup. Not Commonwealth Clashes. Sometimes the thought process malfunctions between the brain and the typing fingers.

My only gripe with Eastern Storm is that hardly any locals compete with the USAC boys. Which is why I REALLY want to make it to Indiana Sprint week this summer, especialy after my first visit to Haubstadt this past summer.

There are lots of inexpensive motels in Central Pa. Just check Hotels.com. Its not like the Great Plains with isolated towns & racing the only game in town. Lots of towns & people & half of them don't know what sprint car is.
