All these years I've seen this picture of the Christmas sprint car with lights on it and wondered how you got this picture? My husband Johnny Vermeer did that car at Christmas just a few months after 9-11. He was so proud of that car and he had so much fun doing it as he did every year when we still lived in Chino. It was always a great attraction on our busy street. The last year we lived in Chino in 2002, he did his final xmas car and we actually received a ticket on the front door from what I called the nosy senior police patrol. It had a $50 fine and a statement that said please remove dune buggy from front yard.. Im laughing as I think back about it, how I called the Chino police dept and was put in contact with the correct person, and explained the situation, my husbands sprint car passion and how anyone who new anything about racing would certainly know that sure as hell was no damn dune buggy on the front yard and it wasn't moving until after New Years. I might add, our house was decorated full of lights everywhere and close to Christmas Tree Lane, a neighborhood of show lights and displays. Needless to say, the police officer said oh jeez, I'm so sorry, please just throw that ticket away, I'll take care it. I never heard another word Smile I was always proud of the thought Johnny put into those cars, even though I always had to go back to Target at least 10 times getting different lights and supplies for him. Thank you for proudly displaying it every year. I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas!! Kelly Vermeer

Hello,

Thank you for your post. That picture was sent to me by Tim Huver Sr., who worked for George Gervais on his Sprint Car with SCRA. Tim and George were big supporters of our website and Tim thought that photo would be a nice addition for Christmas. The Gervais and Vermeer Teams were good friends and Tony Jones would later run some memorial laps at Perris in George's honor.

We did post some sprint car art work a few times, but it was not as popular as that photo of Johnny's car.

Thanks and Happy Holidays,

Lance Jennings / SCRAFAN.COM

Remember the first night we saw that car.  We were driving up Walnut to go the the Italian restuarant on Mountain around the corner from your house and I had to do a double take  when I saw it.  Did not know you guys lived there.  Said to Robin, "wholly Mackinac, that is a sprint car covered with Christmas lights."  It was very, very cool.
