Did anyone else notice that in the lead up to Aussie F1 driver Mark Webber's retirement after last weekend Brazilian Grand prix he published a sereis of short articles about the formative years of his career.
Here's what he wrote about his introduction to motorsport:
In fact, my first intro to motor racing was a million miles removed from F1. The kind of racing I used to enjoy when I was very young was dirt bikes, and sprint cars and midget car racing on the local speedway at Tralee (Canberra). I remember going on Friday and Saturday nights and sitting on dad's shoulders watching the likes of Steve Kinser who had come over from the States to race the Aussie stars like George Tatnell and Garry Rush.
Pretty cool, eh?

Good to hear someone with a world-following in motorsports speaks about sprint cars with fond memories. I started watching F1 about 5 years ago and now I don't miss the them on tv. The racing is ok but its the darting around corners, the incredible stuck-to-the-track-ness of the cars and quickness amazes me. Wanted to make it to Austin but a thousand miles just too far and I'm not the healthiest or youngest guy around. Those F1 cars are the closest thing on 4 wheels to the HP to weight ration of a sprint car. $15,000 for a set of brakes and they use two sets a weekend, one for the race, one for qualifying/practice. 17,000 rpm in a 2.4 liter V-8? Like to see those little pistons. Next year they are going to a 1.6 liter V-6 and still will be around 750 HP and 1,372 pounds. It all amazes me as a race fan.
Greg Hodnett made a mistake during a tv race from Williams Grove recently (a rerun) when he said sprint cars had the highest HP to weight ration of any race car except F1 cars(excludes drag cars). WRONG Greg, they are in the ball park but not close in HP to weight. Sprint cars in the premier series, the WoO are around 925 to 950 HP these days and weight 1400 w/driver.
Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.
