Here's some facts to help those decide who out-performed who. It really depends how you quantify it. I'm a statasticion at my job (I pull data to determine company performance) and I've learned that the end result can be perceived differently by looking at the data in a different manner. A wise boss once told me - "Data is like peanut butter. It can be spread to look good or look ugly. The end result doesn't change, but the story can be manipulated".

All the statistics in the world doesn't prove anything. The only proof is Pittman is the champion and the final points show this. If Schatz had outperformed Pittman he would be the champion. ALL POINTS COUNT whether your man won or not. Would everyonejust give up on it and get back to reality.

I was wondering if anyone else would get a little chuckle outa Donnys comment , "out performed" to me, a perfomance is the whole ball of wax, qualifying, settup, luck, racing, lane choices, wrenching, engine ,tires, chassis, EVERYTHING makes for a perfomance!, so if one could just win the WoO title by dropping two good laps at each event would that be sufficient to win a title? in simple terms, the 15 just lost, now now, In Donnys defence, he is a racer, a passionate racer, anyone who is competitive hates to loose, ANYONE, the microphone is in his chops two minutes after the checkers wave, interviews can go bad or full of excitement . these guys race for a living and winning keeps thier butts in the seats, regardless, Im happy it was a tight points race to the end, Congratz to Daryn on the title..

here are some numbers from just a while back when donny had 21 wins and pitman had 8.
donny 1st place points at that time 3150
daryn 1st place points at that time 1200
donny combined 2nd thru 5th place points at that time 3018
daryn combined 2nd thru 5th place points at that time 5008
total points from all top 5 finishes at that time
donny 6168
daryn 6208
i think at that time daryn had donny beat by about 190 points in qualifying
donny had daryn beat in 6th place or worse points by about 80
daryn gained put the most points on donny by having more 2nd thru 5th place points.
donny was good at winning, but not finishing in the top 5 when he wasn't winning.
daryn was better at finishing in the top 5 when he wasn't winning
daryn was just consistantly up front more when he wasn't winning than donny was.
to indy and beyond!!

The Schatz scenario must mean who ever hits the most home runs is the best hitter in baseball.

You hit the nail on the head. Daryn was more consistently running in the 2nd thru 5th positions and obviously a better qualifier. This season, just like the year Saldana won 20 races and finished 3rd, proves that a grueling WoO tour rewards a driver that does well in the total package. Donny also had 5 finishes of 18th or worse while Daryn only had 1.
Vary happy to see Daryn, Mandy and KKR win the 2013 WoO championship!!

If one were to check the record, last year Sammy Swindell had 2 more wins and 11 more quick times than Schatz did. I think I would consider that "outperforming". So, if Donny is a true sportsman and really belives his own drivell, he should give his title from last year to Sam. No? I didn't think so.
My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Yes. Donny had a better resume from the front row. Appears he was able to pull more front row starts due to more qualifying efforts in the 9 thru 16 positions which would put him on the front row of his heat race and easier to make the dash. Pittman made his fare share of dashes as well, simply due to the number of top 2 qualifying runs which virtually guarantees a dash spot.
Pittman front row starts = 12 (2 poles, 10 outside front row)
Finishes from pole = 2nd & 5th
Finishes from outside front row = 1 win; four 2nd's; two 3rd's, 4th, 9th, 13th
Schatz front row starts = 19 (9 poles, 10 outside front row)
Finishes from pole = 5 wins, 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 9th
Finishes from outside front row = 7 wins, 2nd, 8th, 23rd

Damn, you've got WAY too much free time. Pitman won with the same points package that Donny has won it with. Time to move on to 2014...

The rules have been the same for years. Schatz won his the same way.
If I had a say in it... I'd through away the Kinser rule and start quick time on the pole of the dash, but not give points for qualifying.
Points and an invert of 4, 6 or 8 VS Quicktime starting on the pole of the dash with no invert. (no points for qualifying)

What's the difference in $ earned, just wonderin' and not got the time to look it up. How often does the 'top' team in the major sports not win the championship, I think it's often except for B-Ball which isn't really a sport, lol.....
