This was the date the Pittman won his 7th and most current points race. That's 108 days and running.  Overall Schatz has 22 points race wins and Pittman has 7. (They list 8 with the WoO but one of Pittman's was a non points feature at Lernerville that he started up front on due to the invert from the finish of the actual points feature.)  My opinion and my opinion only is that they are putting too much emphasis on time-trial points.  My reasoning?  If driver A wins 22 features but driver B only wins 7 features how important is the actual "racing" part of the program?  I realize this is the points format currently in place for the WoO, but I hope they take a long hard look moving forward in the future as to how points are tabulated.   Also, if a driver/team are fast enough to set quick-time night in and night out, then why arent they quick enough to win races on a regular basis?  At least why havnt they won a single race in 108 days?  Just my thoughts as we enter the final weekend of the WoO points season.  Good luck to both.

I wish they'd completely revamp their entire program.

Still time trial and award (1) point for quick time, invert the heats 6 or 8 (depending on 4 or 3 heats).  If they invert 6 in the heat, you have to finish top 4 to advance to the dash, top 5 to advance to the feature.  If they invert 8, you have to advance to the top 5 to advance to teh dash and the top 6 to advance to the feature.

Quickest 12 cars that are in teh top 4 or 5 (depending on car count and invert in heats) are put into the dash, maximum invert of 8, minimum invert of 4.

Award points in the heats (20 to win, 18 for 2nd, down by 1 point per position after that, and award 1 point for every car you pass as well.

Award 200 points to win the feature, 190 for 2nd and go down by 2 points per position after that and award 1 point for every car you pass in the feature too (so, in theory, someone could start 10th and finish 2nd and get 199 points if the guy who won started on the pole and won, but conversely, if the guy started 10th and won the feature, he'd get 209 points and if everyone else just "maintained their position", they'd lose a lot of points in a night.

Time to reward guys for PASSING other cars and award WINNING (even the heats) by more than just a couple points.

Qualifying well doesn't guarantee you the best feature starting spot.  In fact being first or second qualifier guarantees you WON'T start on the front of the dash as the only possible inverts are 4,6 or 8.  The WoO results page only has summaries thru Aug 13.  But using those I see that Pittman had started on the front of the dash 7 times while Schatz had 12 times.   Pittman had 1 dash win, Schatz had 6.  Their average dash starting spots were Pittman 5 and Schatz 4.  Up to that point Schatz had 14 wins and Pittman 8.  All those good qualifying times PIttman was racking up wasn't translating to better starting spots and everyone knows the better starting spot you have the better your chances are to win.  I don't point this out to take anything away from Donnie because I think he's been the best driver on the planet for quite some time.  But sometimes the numbers aren't always as the appear.

Personally I think if they're going to qualify they should just line the heats up by times with no invert at all.  If qualifying is part of the event why penalize a guy for being best at it?  What I'd rather see is passing points like ASCS does.  That forces you to race as hard as you can and pass as many as you can every time you're on the track.  But I realize the big boys would never go for that.

jmo.

If you're gonna give points for heats, what use is qualifying for 1 point? Might as well get rid of qualifying.

Pill draw. Double heats. Full invert after the first. Passing points. No Dash. Line 'em up.

I Agree

Pos. Driver   Diff Wins Top 5's Top 10's QT
1 Daryn Pittman     8 45 59 13
2 Donny Schatz     23 45 60 3

Donny has him smoked in wins, tied for top 5's and 1 more top 10, the difference is 10 less QT's

And I'm not a Donny fan, I'm a Pittman fan, but Donny deserves the Championship.

Problem is, if they revamp the points in the off season to make more about Racing that Time Trialing, everyone will whine and say they did it to help Donny win the Championship lol

Wasn't it 2009 when Saldana won 20 races but ended up 3rd in the points behind a champ with 12 wins and a guy in 2nd with 9 or so wins?

I think average finish is a better stat to use when you try to argue about whos performance should have won a championship....anybody know what the average finish, in full point races, works out to be for Pittman and Schatz this year?

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.
