The Numbers:
47 Sprint Cars competed in the 2012 Winter Nationals, that number is bound to be close to if not surpassed. The most recent ASCS Sanctioned event was a regional event between the Gulf South and Lone Star Regions, that event drew 33 cars. The number of DGS Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Cars should be an impressive number, with around 80 cars in the DFW Area. A host of out-of-towners going for the $2000 to win prize should bump that number up.
The Champions:
Nine 2013 Champions will be in action between the 2 divisions of sprint car racing. Four local track champions will be in action, Robert Vetter of Wolfe City, Texas is fresh off capturing the RPM Speedway Track Championship. As well as Logan Payne lassoing the Devil’s Bowl Speedway Track Championship by 1 position over Raven Culp, in the final race of the regular season.
The two other local track champions battled it out on the National stage. John Ricketts and Jeb Sessums both from Burleson, Texas, waged a war for the 2013 IMCA National Sprint Car Championship. John Ricketts won the track championship at Mountain Creek Speedway and Jeb Sessums won the Kennedale Speedway Park track championship. All of it came down to the final race of the season at Kennedale Speedway Park, WITH A TIE! John Ricketts held the tie breaker though, retaining the most wins throughout the 2013 season and won the 2013 IMCA National Championship.
A host of Regional Champions will be on hand as well, 2013 ASCS Sooner and Lone Star Region Champion Matt Covington of Glenpool, Oklahoma, has doubled those crowns by eclipsing the same feat for 2 straight years now. Ray Allen Kulhanek also took the ASCS Gulf South Region Championship by just 13 points over Clute Texan Aaron Reutzel in 2013. Jack Dover took home the ASCS MidWest Regional Championship, Ty Johnson ended up with a 2013 Louisiana Bayou Sprint Car Championship (RaceSaver). In one of the biggest stories of the year; Harli White of Lindsay, Oklahoma took home the OCRS Championship at 18 years of age, becoming the first female to win a major sprint car championship.
Jason Johnson and Bryan Clauson both won a premier sprint car series championship in 2012; Jason Johnson with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series and Bryan Clauson with the USAC National Sprint Car Title. Jason Johnson currently holds a 52-point advantage over Johnny Herrera in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Standings and Bryan Clauson holds a 13-point advantage over Dave Darland in the USAC National Sprint Car Series. In a very rare occurrence, we will get to see these two champions battle it out at the Historical Half Mile of the Devil’s Bowl Speedway in the 40th Annual Winter Nationals James McElreath Memorial.
The Double Duty:
Martin Edwards, Dale Wester, Raven Culp, Harli White, John Carney, Ray Allen Kulhanek, Michael Lang, Kevin Ramey and Blake Jenkins, is just the list we know of who is going to be doing Double Duty between the Lucas Oil ASCS and DGS Motorsports Race Saver Sprint Cars. With a $2000 to win payday for the winner of the DGS Motorsports RaceSaver Sprint Car feature event Saturday night. The temptation to run both divisions is definitely at a high level. Several drivers are currently looking for 305 rides like Christopher Bell, as well as some select individuals looking for a 360 ride, like 2013 IMCA National Sprint Car Champion John Ricketts.
The Conclusion:
We will all have to wait and see, but when you put things together. It would not be a surprise to see over 100 Sprint Cars at the 40th Annual Winter Nationals James McElreath Memorial, on October 18th and 19th at the Devil’s Bowl Speedway.

I understand where you're coming from completely, but at least you're not sitting through six or seven support classes like you would at other tracks. Unless there are a ton of red flags I think we'll still get out at a reasonable hour.

Well if you look at it, there is a GUARNTEE that 100 cars will be in the pits. This is just about 100 Sprint Cars… There is still a whole division of Blaine’s Motor Supply USA Limited Modifieds to add to the fold. This would take the car count to around 140 cars. The solution to your worries is this… Like mentioned, some other tracks will run anywhere from 3 to 6 support divisions. If those classes average lets say 25 cars. If there is 6 support classes, plus lets say 35 ASCS Sprint Cars, that’s 180 cars, at 4 support classes that’s 130. Plus another upside is it’s 100 Sprint Cars… Races will go faster, if you are worried about RED FLAGS, that shouldn’t be a big problem, as we have only had 1 flip this year in weekly competition. Also, you can ask anyone! The Devil’s Bowl Speedway is a top tier track when it comes to running a show! Fast and efficient!

The only time an 8:30 start time is acceptable is with heavy rain or intense heat during the summer in an attempt to save the track. Sun will be down at 7. Open the gates at 3, hot laps at 6. No reason that can't be done. IMO checkered flag SHOULD drop between 10-11 every night.

I'm not worried about red flags at all, I was just opining to OKRacers that red flags would be the only reason that the show could run later than normal. I'm not expecting a large number of red flags either, but just because there was only one during the weekly show doesn't mean there can't be ten of them this weekend. Sometimes it just does that way. I went to the last three days of the Knoxville Nationals this year and only remember three red flags for that.

Remember, the Winter Nationals always has a huge draw of cars, many are teams with day jobs and coming from long distances. I think 8pm is reasonable. It could start at midnight and I'd still be there!

The Bowl is my favorite track, it's home & I'll be there tomorrow night. And Saturday night.
Buuuuuuuuuuuutttttttttttt....
I really don't think it's anything to brag about maybe getting a checkered flag before midnight.
I've traveled to tracks in PA & AR this year & haven't been in stands anywhere near midnight. PA... I was already back at the hotel before 11, 11:30 at the latest. Guess that means the checkered was way before midnight.
TX shows keep starting late... TX fans like to be casually late (which is moronic) at all sporting events... keep pushing the show start later & later & all you're doing is enabling people to continue their behavior.
Attendence has been timid at most dirt track stuff I've seen in TX over the last several years, including the Bowl. Maybe one has to do what you think is right. Maybe late starts keep families away because little kids don't need to get home after the drive at 1am. Hell... I don't have kids & I'd much rather get home at 11pm than 1am.
I vote 7pm for races to start & let the chips fall where they may but I'm not the promoter & it isn't my $ to be lost.
Good luck to the Bowl for the attendance, to the racers for safety & to the fans for a good show to enjoy.
P.S. USAC @ the Bowl would rule. Just saying. I've seen USAC 3 times this year & any night of the 3 was better than any ASCS or WoO race I've seen in years. Darland & Clauson nonwinging it on the gray clay... magic.

id would bet the show is not over before 1 0r 1.30 now greedy lanny has to add modifieds for a few more pit passes and sell a few more hot dogs and you can bet your ass he will run ascs last because he would lose few hot sales all of this in 40 degrees weather

I would prefer 7 pm myself, but I'm kinda like Hawker in that I'll be there regardless of when they start. My thoughts are not about race fans, but rather I would be thinking about the residential areas that are now very close to the track. Why not start at 7 pm and get the races done as early as you can. I would want to be as good a neighbor as I could to head off future problems with noise complaints, etc.
