WoO championship most likely for Pittman but 410 driver of the year, highly unlikely. As of now Schatz has 21 wins and Pittman 8, Schatz has one less top ten (57 to 58) and one less top 5 (44 to 43) for the year, don't see how any fair minded writer could give it to the WoO champ comparing those two. Maybe there is someone in USAC or somewhere that had a fantastic year that won a title--NOT gonna happen me thinks.
To take it even further, say the WoO champ wins 4 races but has just unbelievable luck. A guy wins 25 or maybe 27 races and has same top tens and top fives but has terrible luck. Motors blow, lappers get in the way and all of a sudden spin out in front of the big 25 race winner causing lots of DNFs or last place finishes, breaks wrist and misses two races, etc.. Who is the best driver of the year? Don't think Pittman will win that driver of the year award but bottom line---pays no money that I know of at least.

Looking at the stats it is hard to believe that Pittman can win this. It is pretty impressive he has held the lead for this long. Did he lead in points from start to finish? I know he had a good Florida run to start the season. I guess it is just like Saldana getting 20 a couple years ago and not winning the title. Very interesting!

I do believe Pittman has led from the get go. Hard to do in this series. My hat is off to him. Just hope he can hold on to the end.

I just think this whole argument is stupid. They all knew how the points were awarded at the start of the season. No one changed them mid-season to make them unfair. Pittman will likely be the champ and he deserves to be--because that is how the points worked out. Schatz had a dismal start to the year and even he will admit that. You aren't going to win a points championship in racing unless you start and finish the year. Oh wait, unless you want them to start a chase for the cup..????
Didn't think so.

No--the death of Earnhardt made the Chase. When Nascar lost half of its fan base, they tried to come up with a gimic to get viewership up. I think the plans for a playoff schedule were in the works before Kenseth got that 1-win championship.
And--for anyone who says Donny deserves to win the championship--please rephrase. I am not going to disagree with anyone that the point system does not need to be tweeked. However, once again, they all knew the way the points were given at the beginning of the season. Donny decided not collect any until the weather got warm. That's his problem. Pittman DESERVES to win the championship.

I believe is was Penske who was complaining that Kenseth only won 1race but won the title basically because he finished in the top 5 or 10 almost every week and his driver Ryan Newman won 8races so he and all of the other owners cried about it that a driver shouldn't be champion if they won only 1race even though they finished up front every week.
What they failed to mention during this was that Newman also had 7DNF's compared to Kenseth's 2.

Some people keep saying Pittman is ahead cause he started the season better. Meaningless. All races count the same, its based on total points.
System is screwy. Schatz has clearly been the dominating racer. I'm not a Schatz fan or hater either. He's awesome, should be champ. Maybe he can still pull it off... after all started from 21st at Knoxville....

Im sorry but once again i have to reiterate that everybody raced on the same points system. Donny didnt and isnt getting " cheated" . He had the same oppotunities that Pittman had. Is he the flat out baddest fastest SOB running right now? YES he is! But he still doesnt have as many points as Pittman nuff said.

As long as he does NOT have the most points, he doesn't deserve anything.
