At New Egypt Speedway's awards banquet this weekend the long-standing rumor that the track had been sold to new owners was confirmed by the Grossos. Along with that, it was the buzz all weekend that the new ownership will have both the WoO sprint and late models there in 2007.

PJ won in 2002, Schatz won the only other two (2001/2003) Outlaw shows.

I use The Open Wheel Times constantly with my work. On some research jobs I've done, it cuts the time down from hours to mere minutes. Without OWT, I wouldn't have time to post on here.....Kirk

I haven't checked the results, but if I remember correctly a number of 360's made the main the last time the WOO ran there, and there was some astronomical difference in the qualifying times between fastest and slowest. Had to be scary stuff after about two laps.

As I posted on another board .....

He won two AllStar features on one night ...... not sure that has to do with WoO, but..

8/29/1998 he won a makeup feature from 5/2/1998 and that nights feature.

He won a WoO feature on 5/30/1998 and won the weekly show 5/23/1998 so I suppose that could have been a delayed feature as well.

Haha. Yea Mike, PJ won here in his 'home state' the middle time the WoO came to New Egypt like Scott posted. I think he was more ecstatic in victory lane that night than when he won the HBO. He made more donuts than that Dunkin guy. Smile

The new owners will be Bill Mscoskey (not sure on the spelling...he's a former racer though if I remember right) and some guy named Fred lol. People have been saying he has something to do with a material company called EME right down the road from the racetrack. Mscoskey used to own a golf course and sold it which apparently made him one hell of a chunk of change. I think at one point he was also the mayor of the town.

Speaking of winning TWO features on the same night brings back a wonderful memory for me.

Sammy Swindell won the last two World of Outlaws features ever run at Bloomington Speedway on the same night. The significance of course is the fact that this was Steve Kinser's home track, woo hoo. Man, that had to feel good knowing their rivalry. What would be almost as special to me would be another race at this historic facility. Mike Miles runs a class operation and with Mike O'Leary form one of the better combinations in this sport, I miss them both. Take It Easy......

PS Sammy is still the ONLY driver to win TWO World of Outlaw features at different tracks on the same day. He did this at Syracuse and Rolling Wheels back in '92 and I was lucky enough to see those as well, ahhhhh memories......

Yeppir - the OWT is awesome - In addition to Kevin's no-holds-barred editorials the stats compiled there are extremely thorough and must have taken quite some time to compile...

MY OPINION--- I would rather see the Outlaws @ Lincoln, then @ New Egypt. They tend to pull in the URC guys to cover the field and the track is kinda weird in shape to have a good 410 sprint race. The URC's and the ARDC midgets put on a good show there.

I guess, if they come in early enough, the Outlaws should have plenty of cars. (before the lesser $ cars drop off the trail)

I will probably go anyway since it is the closest sprint race to me (30 min.)

Remember the first WOO show and the $14000. 50/50 jackpot. Now that was a big crowd.

Later, Jersey

PS--Mike, did ya get my reply to your e-mail to me. Just wondering. I can now send out e-mails again. Big deal!!!

Even with the almost tri-oval shape of the track, I don't know how anyone could think that the sprints didn't put on a good show there. The track is called a half-mile, but is actually more like 4/10ths...around the outside groove. It's almost bullring-ish, but speeds get up higher than you would expect from it being a kind of momentum track.

The first year the Outlaws came back to NJ it had sprinkled/showered on and off all day. At some points it didn't even seem like they would get the race in that night. Fortunately though, they did. The track was nice and heavy, and stayed that way from intermittent showers, and it ended up being one of the best sprint car races I've ever seen. If, for one, will be there come hell or high water if they're on the schedule next season.

One thing I can say though; When the drivers saw the track and went out for hot laps, a few of them were making comments like, "what was this guy thinking when he built this track?". Haha

It is definitely a 'drivers track'.

Also, the dates being floated right now is May 22nd for the WoO sprint cars (unconfirmed) and April 13th for the WoO late models (confirmed).
