with all the talk I hear of no one in their prime be3ing as good as Donnie, I was wondering from you folks that have been lucky enough to watch them, is Jason Meyers as good as Donnie, I mean 2 outlaw titles in a row before "retiring" at the top?

No. Meyers is like Pittman, good points racer but has nowhere near the wins or the big race record as Schatz.

IS he as good as Donny? No. WAS he as good as Donny? For two years he was better than Donny. Anyone that argues that, what the hell do they do a points championship for? They ran the same exact races all year long and Jason was better. He won't ever be argued as being better than Donny though 20 years from now. But, for 2 years, he was. You are as good as your record says you are--Bill Parcells

not even close. 2 championships is nothing to ignore, but all records speak for themselves and they all go Schatz's way
when the green flag drops, the bullshit stops!

I think they both know how to R&D the package to make them better than their competition.

Fucking seriosly? The only thing legit about this question is the quotation marks before and after the word "retiring".

Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

When you have unlimited funds you are naturely going to be better than todays competition that you race against.
Kenny Weld's quote still stands. How fast do you want to go, how much do you want to spend?

I personally measure "greatness" based on the big $$$ races, championships are great, but you can win the championship and NEVER win a race all season.
I think Meyers was as close to Donny as anyone, but if you look at his record in the big $$$ races, he's probably 3rd at best of the drivers in their "prime" during the years he was racing full-time on the WoO. Schatz and Saldana won more big $$ races than Meyers ever did (or will if he stays retired) and come to think of it, has Meyers won ANY of the big $$$ races?
What do people talk about: WoO Championships or Nationals,/King's Royal/National Open/Gold Cup winners?? Seems to me that the big $$$ races is what people talk about.

so by that logic, Tyler Walker and Tim Shaffer are also better than Myers?

All Hammerdown! Team every year since its inception (10 years) should tell you enough. www.hammerdownusa.com
2 Gold Cups
2012 Trophy Cup
World Finals Wins (swept both features in 2011 I believe)
Ironman 55
2011 National Open
2011 Summer Nationals
...
I'll bet even the casual fans could tell you how many times over the King has won the championship, so it's not exactly something that's not talked about. Ask Joey what it'd mean to him to win a championship. Egras nailed it in his post. Is he better? No, but for two years he was.

We all need to remember Jason just dominated right before he went home. Its such a shame he quit.

Take ricky warner away from that team and see what donny could do then. When steve came back from nascar steve could still win races and championship without karl. Could donny?

Flat Out magazine had a ten-page article on the nationals in last month's issue. First two few paragraphs said it all: "in the end Donny Schatz left us speechless" and "Donny is the best sprint car driver on the planet, that cannot be debated by any level-headed sprint car fan".
An amazing record to say the least. Actually, if Schatz wins another WoO race or two, or even stays at 20 or 21 (whatever it is now) and Pittman stays at his number, and add to that the fact that Schatz won the big races, motorsports writers/voters will have a tough time voting Pittman 410 driver of the year. Yea, it normally goes to the WoO champ but not sure that will hold up this year unless Pittman wins the finals at Charlotte. That might give it to him.
