Peter Murphy to make appearance at Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway this Saturday night September 21

By Gary Thomas

Tulare, CA – September 18, 2013…We are happy to announce that fan favorite and all around good guy Peter Murphy will be making an appearance this Saturday night at the Tulare Thunderbowl Raceway, which will be his first time back at the races since his racing accident suffered in Antioch on July 20.

“I’m really looking forward to being back at the races and seeing everyone in Tulare on Saturday,” Murphy said. “All the support and good wishes I have received from everyone has been very humbling. I can’t thank everybody enough for all the thoughts and prayers they have given me over the last eight weeks. I continue to work hard on my recovery and getting back to the track is something I’ve really wanted to do.”

Murphy was injured during the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series event at the Antioch Speedway in July. The Clovis, California resident and Sydney, Australia native was running second to Jonathan Allard in the main event that night, until the unfortunate accident occurred on lap-14. Murphy suffered a traumatic brain injury, ligament damage in his neck, shoulder and knees, along with a compressed T-3 vertebra.

“It’s going to be great for everyone to see Peter Murphy on Saturday at the Tulare Thunderbowl,” commented Sprint Car driver Brent Kaeding. “I know that we’ve all missed having him compete with us and it really hasn’t been the same without him at the track each week. He’s one of those really good guys that make this sport so special. Saturday is shaping up to be a great event and we hope all the fans can make it out to Tulare.”

New Zealander Luke Keegan will also be in action on Saturday driving a 1nz “Peter Murphy Race to Recovery” themed car with the USAC West Coast 360 Series. He will also compete in the machine on Friday night at Kings Speedway in Hanford with USAC. For those that have supported Peter’s recovery we greatly appreciate it and for those who still would like to purchase T-shirts we will have the Peter Murphy Race to Recovery shirts for sale in the grandstands.

This Saturday’s event marks the 16th round of competition for the traveling King of the West 410’s and is the final time that the tour will compete at the Thunderbowl in 2013. Sacramento’s Kyle Hirst holds a 42-point advantage in the series standings over three-time champ Jonathan Allard and will face a talented field set to invade the one-third mile clay oval. Among those will include two-time World of Outlaws titlist Jason Meyers and nine-time Outlaw winner this season Tim Kaeding.

I stopped by the shop (Pro Signs) the other day to see if I could find out how he was doing, there hadn't been anything posted anywhere for some time.  Walked in the door to the outer office, and there he sat at the computer.  Had a very nice talk with him.  He told me how he was progressing and what he knew or remembered about that night.  Even took me in the back shop and showed me what was left of the car, OUCH!
