With the season coming to close what is it that some of you boys and girls like to do when not going to the races. Myself there is not much to do other than watch NFL, living in the midwest it can get cold fast and stay that way until April. I can only watch old races on video so long. Look forward to next year. LOVE THEM SPRINT CARS.

Fool around with my guitars and keyboard and even make an occasional feeble attempt at singing http://www.gotomn.com/misc-temp/When the Captain comes around.mp3
And when I get tired of playing I follow these guys around. The lead singer and songwriter Jay (my daughter's fiance' and the father of one of my grandsons) used to live with us for a couple years. We had some pretty lively jam sessions around my fire ring. When I'd come home from the races he'd have a fire going and hand me a cold beer and my acoustic. For a lot of folks racing is their all consuming interest but for me it gets in the way of my other hobbies and I'm usually ready for it to end by this time of year. Especially this season seeing as I'm in the middle of installing hardwood flooring on the entire upper level. Not an easy task for a pencil pusher. LOL

P.S. I don't know what's going on with this board but the edit function doesn't work for me in Firefox or MSIE. It used to work up until a few weeks ago and now I get a blank screen whenever I attempt to do an edit. I was going to make my tune and the band website a link but no success. Anyways, my own music and following Via around to the downtown Minneapolis clubs are my main thing. Aside from that catching up on movies and beer drinking. I don't get to have any beers at the races on account of taking photos all night and having to drive home afterwards. It's fun having time to relax and pursue hobbies.

And for nearly a month now I thought I was the only one who got the "blank page" when I tried to edit!
I LEARNED ESP FROM MY MOM
"PUT YOUR SWEATER ON: DON'T YOU THINK I KNOW WHEN
YOU'RE COLD?"

I work so I have enough to support my addiction in the spring, summer and fall.

Don't get much of a off season. My last race is Turkey night and the first race is the chili bowl At the beginning of January. And if we don't mind driving between AZ and southern and Northern California we can find a race almost every weekend.
We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

Yep and the Winter Challenge at Canyon for at least last year was four days at the end of Jan and the first two days of Feb last time... 6 nights of racing and I'm sure it will be close to those dates again. Clausen kicked butt in Mike Martins car last year.
Next race for me will be the "Brawl for it all"...http://www.canyonspeedwaypark.com/schedule/
Fishin and Sprint cars year round for this kid.
Half the lies they tell about me aren't true.

NFL football, NHL hockey and poker league! Plenty of things to do--none as fun as a night with dirt in the beer though!

Forgot to mention that my goal this winter will be to replace camera equipment so I can do the racing deal again next year. I'm afraid that I wouldn't make a very good bleacher creature after being involved in the sport for the past fifteen years. If I wasn't taking photos and writing about racing I'd probably find another hobby and go to two or three races per season. I can't speak for everyone who has done the photo and writing gig but I would thnk that a lot of them would agree that they have no ineterest in going back to sitting in the stands. For me the thrill is that next shot and next story. Replacing the gear is going to be a formidable challenge and I'll definately have to go with used to even have any chance of making it work. I can pick up another pretty nice guitar in the $500 range, the photo gear I need will be three times that much. I'm dreading what my accountant is going to say when she finds out that both of my camera bodies have been destroyed by dirt. I'm dreading that conversastion.

Out here in LaLa land the last race is Turkey Nite at Perris. Then ballet season starts with about 4 NutCrackers to choose from, followed by various companies stopping in LA on tour. It ain't cheap to see a ballet, average tariff to see a major ballet $75 to $100. OK, so I can here macho types getting a big yuk. Ballet and racing share the attribute of poetry in motion, 3 wide is as thrilling as a Pas de Deus. The dancers are the best trained athletes of any dicipline. Of course we have the choice of surfing or skiing on the same day at times. Surfing and skiing were once my passions, but age caught up with me. We like to go on our bikes down to the Santa Monica bike path in winter. Beautiful people, elegant ladies, weirdos at Venice. What's not to like?

I race my r/c cars and watch football. Actually in the "off season" I have no free weekends either.
