Armadillo Nationals Qualifying/Championship Night Format
Kilgore, TX (9/10/13) by DarinShort.com. The Armadillo Nationals at LoneStar Speedway in Kilgore, Texas will be held on September 26-28 and features a very unique, yet simple and fair qualifying format.
The event pays $10,000 to win the DAY Motorsports Modifieds, $3,000 to win in the Limited Modifieds and $2,000 to win for the Factory Stocks.
At www.darinshort.com/arm.html you can view the complete event website, rules, format, purse breakdown, get your team registered and much more.
Here's how drivers will qualify for the event:
Thursday night:
Drivers in all three race divisions will draw for heat race starting position. Heat races will be 8 laps in distance and passing points will be awarded (passing points awarded for heat races only).
The top 16 in passing points after the heats will go straight up to their respective qualifying A-features. The balance of the field will go to either one or two B-features (depends on car count), with a total of 8 cars advancing from the B(s) to the A. The modified qualifying feature will be 25 laps. The factory stocks and limited modifieds will each be 20 laps.
The top 4 finishers in each qualifying A-feature will advance directly to the front 4 rows of the Championship A-feature on Saturday night. There is no dash, redraw; etc.
Friday night:
The identical format as Thursday night is in effect, with the top four qualifying feature winners locking into the top 4 rows of Saturday's Championship A-feature.
After both qualifying nights are over (Thursday and Friday), the balance of the field (in each division) will have their individual qualifying night points tabulated. Your top point night (between Thursday OR Friday) will be your 'final point total' going into Saturday night.
In other words, your nightly point totals are not combined. Your low point night is kicked out. Cars that are locked in are not listed on the 'final points' list.
You do not have to race both Thursday and Friday night to be able to race on Saturday night.
However, racing on both qualifying nights gives you twice the chance to get a good qualifying spot in case one of your two qualifying nights you have problems.
Saturday night:
In all three divisions, 8 cars are already locked into the A-feature (which are the top 4 finishers of Thursday and Friday's features).
The next 6 starters in the Championship A-feature (in each division) will come directly from each driver's 'final points total' tabulated after Thursday and Friday.
Those 6 drivers will bypass racing on Saturday night until the A-feature. The top point driver from the 'final points total' will start the A-feature in 9th place, the 2nd place points driver will start 10th; and so on. There is no redraw at LoneStar Speedway in any race, all weekend long.
The balance of the field (which will be 10 cars per division) will come from the B-features. The B-features will be lined up by your 'final points total' as well.
The B-features will be a maximum of 15 laps, but will be determined by how many starters are in them (depends on car count).
The A-features for the Limited Modifieds and Factory Stocks will be 30 laps each. The Modifieds will be 50 laps. There are no fuel stops scheduled - just like the LoneStar Sprint Nationals or Lucas Oil Late Model events at LoneStar. IF the Modified feature exceeds 35 minutes from the start of the feature, a fuel stop may be implemented.
Drivers that choose not to race on Thursday or Friday can still race on Saturday, but they will tag the field of the lowest B or C feature (depends on car count). They must pay the advertised entry and transponder fees and will race for the advertised purse. However, if those drivers do not advance to the Championship A-feature, they will not receive tow money.
This is the final 2013 points race for these three LoneStar Speedway divisions. Each driver will receive 10 points for competing in the Armadillo Nationals - regardless of their finishing position or how many nights of the event they compete in.
Please take a few moments to read the detailed event format and rules by clicking www.darinshort.com/arm.html (and then click the 'rules' link), as the entire weekend's format is spelled out in complete detail there. This is the same format that was used at the LoneStar Sprint Nationals in 2011 and 2012, and is a very fair system, as it allows you more than one chance to get a great starting spot - without being penalized if you have an off night on one of the qualifying nights.
Thanks to the drivers that have taken the time to get pre-entered. Registration continues through Tuesday, September 24th (2 days before the event) at the normal registration price of $80 for Modifieds and $55 for Limited Modifieds. There is no registration fee for the Factory Stocks.

PASSING POINT LINEUP SYSTEM for the $10,000 to win ARMADILLO NATIONALS - LoneStar Speedway Sept. 26-28:
1. Finishing positions in heat will receive points dropping 4 points per position. EXAMPLE 1st 59, 2nd 55, 3rd 51, 4th 47, 5th 43, etc. This applies to all three race divisions.
2. Each car passed for position from green flag start to finish is 1 ½ points.
3. Starting lineup is from drop of first green flag. If a car pulls out before a green flag is dropped all cars will move straight forward but those positions are not counted. After initial green flag any positions advanced from start to finish of race will count. If a driver elects to go to rear at start of heat he will receive finishing points only (no passing points). Any car that fails to draw for heat race will receive finishing point only.
4. Highest total points will start on pole of Qualifying Feature Race. 2nd highest outside pole, etc.
5. Qualifying feature race points are 1st 100, 2nd 98, dropping 2 points per position.
5a. Your heat race points (including passing points) plus your qualifying feature race points equals your 'final points' going into Saturday night's championship events. If you race both Thursday and Friday night, your highest point night between the two will be your 'final points.' You don't have to race both Thursday and Friday, but obviously you double your chances of improving your final points total if you do. Your low point night is not dropped until after Friday night's races are completed. There is no 'penalty' for racing both nights and there is no additional entry fee (just your pit pass) to race Thursday and Friday.
6. IRP (Ingalls Racing Products) has put up a $500 cash bonus to the overall high point driver! Here's how that will work: The Saturday night feature will also receive same points as in #5 above, as there will be an overall points winner. The $500 will go to the driver from all three race divisions who has the highest accumulated point total from their qualifying night plus the championship night.
6a. In event of tie, driver advancing most positions from start of their respective championship race will be winner.
Please click http://www.darinshort.com/arm.html for the complete Armadillo Nationals event website, including online driver registration, which is ongoing through Tuesday, September 24th (two days before the race). At-track registration is $25 higher than online registration, so take advantage of special pricing!
