Per DesMoines Register and WHO-TV , Iowa Speedway's CEO resigned today and track is facing financial problems.....

Rumblings have been going around for a while that this was the final season in Newton....

Let me think

What does Iowa Speedway and:

Memphis Motorsports Park

Gateway International

Nashville Superspeedway

Pikes Peak International Speedway

Nazareth Speedway

Milwaukee Mile

have in commen?

Tracks that had been praying for a Cup date and are now either closed or soon to be closed.

Thanks to the State of Iowa for pissing our tax dollars down a rat hole

Probably won't hear any more bragging from Rusty Wallace about the track he designed in Iowa with its progressive banking.  I can see it now, when it announces closing, he will be unavailable for comment.  He got his $200,000 or more consulting fees.  That figure a wild guess, me guesses a lot more is more likely his fee.

This is not good for Newton as they have had alot of problems since Maytag closed.  I do not think real sprint car fans would go to Newton to see trucks run instead of sprint cars at Knoxville.  I have noticed as I drive by on my way to Knoxville that there is not near the amount of spectator cars parked at Iowa Speedway as there was for first couple of races.  It is not good for any race track to close, please keep this in mind.

that will be a sad day for the state of Iowa and racing... one of the VERY FEW tracks it would be nice to see cup run

hopefully they can get some investors to buy in or it  looks like they are in huge trouble to me (at least after reading the quotes from Rusty Wallace in the DesMoines Register.

The Press Release sent out by the speedway yesterday said that yes, they were behind on payments to vendors, but once they signed NEXT YEAR'S sponsors and started selling NEXT YEAR'S season tickets, they'd have the revenue to pay them.

That seems kind of backwards to me, shouldn't THIS YEAR'S Sponsorships and ticket sales have been able to cover THIS YEAR'S bills?

They are also not replacing their CEO - duties are getting consilidated with another position -- usually means there's no $$ there to pay someone when a company does this.

People complain about the Marion County Fairboard a lot (on message boards, at the races, etc.), but glad they have the thought process of paying for stuff up front instead of trying to finance everything and "hoping" that ticket sales and sponsorships will pay the bills.

He's actually part of hte ownership group, he stands to lose a few million $$$'s if the track goes under is probably a better estimation....

Why don't YOU buy it?   Hell, then the Mrs. & I would go & get in free!!!   As long as you don't put a height requirement like at Cedar Point, we could sit in the front row!!!!!!!!    "it would be nice to see cup run"   Spoken like a closet napcar fan to me........you probably thought bowyer's arm really did itch & you felt sorry for him, didn't ya?HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!   On a side note, the Aussies that were here for the month of $$$ really liked their time with the Richard Petty Exp. there..    that will be gone ,too?   See ya in Jan.,Hump!!!!!

That sounds a little like a Ponzai scheme, doesn't it?  lol Not a very wise way to do business.  These local people do very little to support Knoxville Raceway and it has been a stalwart in the racing world for years.   I don't know what they expected to happen in a Midwest dirt track market.

My wife told me if I went to one more Sprint Car race
she would leave me.................I'm sure gonna miss
that ol' gal.

Yep, maybe worse than an Ponzi scheme, I'd hate to be a vendor that is relying on that revenue to keep their doors open.

I've also heard that some of hte Speedway's biggest supporters weren't going to renew or extend contracts after their contract expire either....or get out of their contracts early because they don't like the way they do business (having financial difficulties and not paying vendors won't help those relationships either).

Maybe Casey's will invest the $$$ they are currently spending in Newton @ Knoxville if the thing goes belly up.  (Good relationship already and a LONG term relationship with Sprint Car Racing (40+ years on the Sonner Racing 47 for example).
